Alió del Barrio from VISSUM CORPORACION OFTALMOLOGICA in Alicante to the growing group of opthalmologists that are implanting the Lumina accommodating IOL. Akkolens International BV welcomes the ophthalmology department of Elisabeth-TweeSteden Ziekenhuis (ETZ) in the Lumina PMCF study. CEO Peter Taal and Timo Eppig : "We look forward to work with Willem-Oege Goslings and his team in this study". the Lumina accommodating IOL is now available from 10 clinics in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Spain.

During AECOS (American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery) from 6-9 june in Prague, Czech Republic, Jorge L. Alió presented the story of the Lumina accommodating IOL made by Akkolens International BV from the Netherlands.  Attendees were impressed by the good outcomes of the Lumina AIOL. Dr Jorge Alio was the first eye surgeon implanting the Lumina AIOL. At the moment more than 10 eye surgeons are implanting the Lumina in Spain, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and the number is steadily growing. This week, Akkolens International BV of the Netherlands is finalizing the application for a Pre Submission meeting with the FDA for the Lumina lens as an accommodating IOL. Akkolens of the Netherlands is the manufacturer of the Lumina accommodating IOL. The Lumina already has a CE certification and is commercially available in Europe.  At the convention of American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in Boston Akkolens will speak with investigators to conduct the PMA study after IDE approval has been obtained. Tuesday 26 march 2024 in VISSUM CORPORACION OFTALMOLOGICA in Alicante, Jorge L. Alió, was handed over the first commercial Lumina lens by  Peter Taal, CEO of Akkolens International BV. Dr Alio has implanted more than 100 Lumina AIOL lenses in various studies over the last 14 years. Vissum clinic in Alicante is still participating in the PMCF (Post Market Clinical Follow-up ) study that Akkolens is currently conducting. In this PMCF study also a number of German and Dutch Clinics are now implanting the Lumina AIOL With all experience with the Lumina lens, and after obtaining CE approval in 2021, the era has now started where the Lumina AIOL will be sold commercially. Clinics around the world are invited to express their interest in participating in implanting the Lumina, the AIOL with > 95% patient satisfaction and spectacle free life.

Akkolens International BV, manufacturer of the Lumina accommodating IOL, announces first closing of a EUR 7M funding round in January 2024. AkkoLens was assisted in the funding process by Impulse The funding will be used for the commercial introduction of the Lumina lens in Europe, including the completion of the PMS study, and for the application for an Initial Device Exemption (IDE), the first step in registering the Lumina in the US. Commercial sales of the Lumina lens will start end of 2024. Eye clinics are welcome to express their interest for the Lumina lens.
