📢 Meet Our Next AlgaEurope 2024 Keynote Speaker! Continuing our keynote series, we’re excited to introduce Dr. Lieve Laurens, Principal Research Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Dr. Laurens will present on "Building a Sustainable Carbon Efficient Future with Photosynthetic Algae Systems." Dr. Lieve Laurens leads pioneering projects in biochemistry to develop low carbon intensity products derived from algae. Her work explores sustainable production of lipids, proteins, and bio-derived materials, aiming to replace petroleum-based products with algae-based alternatives. Educational Background: ✅ Undergraduate and graduate degrees in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the Ghent University in Belgium and University of Paris, France ✅ PhD in Plant Biochemistry from the University of East Anglia and the John Innes Centre in Norwich, England. Professional Achievements: ✅ Principal Scientist, and Distinguished Member of the Research Staff at NREL’s Biosciences Center, where she is currently team lead, and Algae Program manager. ✅ Former chair of the Algae Biomass Organization’s Technical Standards Committee, contributing to standards for algal biomass and biofuels. ✅ Guest editor and advisory board member for the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Sustainable Energy and Fuels. 👉 Dr. Laurens brings over 18 years of experience in bioenergy and algae research, with a vision for a carbon-efficient future.
