The Future of Renewable Hydrogen is Now! Our CEO Mattijs Slee together with CEOs from other leading member companies of the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition urge immediate and bold action to maintain Europe’s leadership in renewable #hydrogen ahead of the publication of the #CleanIndustrialDeal. The EU’s support has been critical to building the renewable hydrogen value chain in Europe. But recognition alone is not enough - we need: 1. Fast implementation of adopted legislation and streamlined permitting for RH2 projects 2. To close the cost gap with fossil incumbent alternatives 3. To unlock private financing for large-scale projects through fit-for-purpose targeted public funding for RH2 and to safeguard industries’ competitiveness 4. To create green lead markets for products made with RH2 To policymakers – your actions now are crucial to the industry's future. Stay the course and scale up renewable hydrogen! Watch the full video

Today Battolyser Systems joins over 100 leading #cleantech innovators and investors from across Europe in an open letter calling on the European Commission to deliver an ambitious Clean Industrial Deal. The letter, addressed to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and relevant Commissioners, emphasizes the urgent need for action in 2025 to address Europe’s geopolitical challenges, energy costs, and intensifying global competition. To succeed on these fronts, the #CleanIndustrialDeal must send two clear market signals: 📈 Boost demand for cleantech: help industries become more competitive by adopting state-of-the-art cleantech, establishing lead markets, integrating innovation into public procurement, maintaining the ambition of the #ETS and #CBAM, and fostering fair trade policies. 💶 Unlock private capital through public de-risking mechanisms: Expand EU funding and guarantees to mobilize Europe’s €38 trillion in private capital, scaling cleantech #manufacturing while ensuring fiscal efficiency. This is a make-or-break moment for Europe’s industrial future. With the right mix of policies and incentives, the Clean Industrial Deal can establish a compelling business case for clean technologies, drive industrial transitions, and pave the way for a prosperous and sustainable future for European citizens. 📄 Read the full open letter and join us in shaping Europe’s clean industrial future: https://lnkd.in/e_8zcV3P Cleantech for Europe Cleantech for Baltics Cleantech for France Cleantech for Nordics Cleantech for Iberia Cleantech for Italy Tech for Net Zero

🌿We start the year with a very comprehensive report on the energy landscape in the Netherlands – our home country🌿 According to the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s 2024 Energy Policy Review, which focused on The Netherlands, the country is setting the pace for a greener future and is indeed making impressive steps toward achieving its 2030 and 2050 #climategoals. Here are some of the key highlights: 🔋Renewable energy leadership: The Netherlands is at the forefront of renewable energy adoption, driven by significant offshore wind and solar PV growth. By 2035, offshore wind capacity is expected to rise to 35 GW, scaling up to 70 GW by 2050. 🏭 Industrial transformation: Clean #hydrogen and carbon capture initiatives ensure industries can reduce emissions while remaining competitive. 🌍 Grid solutions for a greener tomorrow: Tackling grid congestion and investing in #flexibility technologies is pivotal for ensuring a seamless energy transition. By combining robust policies, innovative technologies, and ambitious targets, the Netherlands is building a sustainable future for all, and – as a cleantech player – we are glad to contribute. ⚡ Cleantech Reality Check: how to ensure the future of European Clean Tech is here to stay ⚡ Last month, we were thrilled to have contributed to the Cleantech Reality Check, a timely series of reports by Breakthrough Energy , Cleantech for Europe, and featuring analysis by Systemiq Ltd. This is a necessary and urgent ‘reality check’ for policymakers about the current state of the clean industrial transition in Europe. The first Cleantech Reality Check reveals that #RenewableHydrogen used by refineries could prove to be one of the catalysers of the European Hydrogen Economy, with more than 60 projects announced but the industry still faces some barriers: 1️ Insufficient demand; 2️ Complex public funding mechanisms and; 3️ Fragmented infrastructure development. The Cleantech Reality Check comes at a pivotal moment as the #EU welcomed a new College of Commissioners and prepares to roll out its #CleanIndustrialDeal – expected for 26 February. It highlights not only where we stand but also the barriers we must overcome. 🔗 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/ekqBcnuB Ann Mettler Julia Reinaud Philipp Offenberg Mariano Berkenwald Jules Besnainou Laetitia de Villepin Lukas Marthaler Philip Lake, Eveline Speelman Ruben Davis
When it comes to clean energy, ambitious goals alone aren’t enough. That’s why the Breakthrough Energy Cleantech Reality Check dives into Europe’s progress in key technologies like renewable hydrogen, shipping, and aviation. By focusing on real outcomes—not just targets—we can see what’s working, what’s not, and what needs to change.

Last week, our colleague Olga Półchłopek was in Paris for the Erasmus-Descartes Conference showcasing Franco-Dutch collaboration in the renewable energy sector! While it was an important occasion to discuss #innovation and #crossborder partnerships, it was also crucial to explain how interventions impact hydrogen projects. Governments can influence the #hydrogen economy through funding and regulation. For example, Hydrogen Bank credits impact renewable hydrogen selling price, Dutch grant’s (OWE) investment subsidy impacts hydrogen production cost (CapEx constitutes to the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen) and EU’s 42% target for industrial consumption impacts demand by putting an obligation on hydrogen consumers. In our recent whitepaper, we delve into how these #interventions can affect the profitability of hydrogen projects, here is a sneak peek: 🛒 Hydrogen price: Flexible electrolysers benefit more from higher hydrogen prices due to increased margins and production opportunities (convex graph). Inflexible electrolysers have a linear relationship (only margins) but gain more from the same price increase (steeper slope), meaning that subsidizing price favours this type of electrolysers. 💰 CapEx: All electrolyser types have a linear relationship with capital expenditure, meaning that CapEx subsidies benefit projects equally, regardless of electrolyser flexibility. ⛽ Offtake: Flexible electrolysers become less beneficial as utilization increases, as high offtake reduces flexibility (concave graph). No impact on inflexible electrolysers (flat graph). By understanding these sensitivities, regulators and project developers can make more informed decisions to support #energytransition. Which interventions do you think are the most efficient for the system?
