Two weeks ago, we shared the exciting news that our solo production, Ukrainian Voices: Bud'mo, directed by Joseph Terry, won Best Debut Documentary and the Live Audience Award at the 4th Doc Screenings Documentary Film Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia. Today, we’re thrilled to announce another milestone: the trailer for Ukrainian Voices: Bud’mo is now live on YouTube! 🎥 Watch the trailer here: https://lnkd.in/eAgbZVzk Over 200,000 refugees from Ukraine have arrived in the United Kingdom since the war began, a small fraction of the almost seven million who have fled the country as a whole. That initial exodus from out of the warzone rightly occupied a lot of attention and there have been several important films that covered it. However, we feel it is just as important to explore what happens next. Our documentary captures the courage and resilience of three remarkable women as they rebuild their lives after being displaced by war. 💙💛 As the War in Ukraine shows no signs of stopping, it’s vital to continue sharing these voices and remind the world of the ongoing impact of war—not just on nations, but on everyday lives. Closing out the week with an update on the progress of our solo production "Ukrainian Voices: Bud'mo", directed by Joseph Terry. We mentioned before that it was selected as part of the official programme of the 4th Doc Screenings Documentary Film Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia. Well, we're extremely proud to announce that it won two awards at the festival: Best Debut Documentary and the Live Audience Award. This success has reinforced our strong belief that this film truly resonates and deals with something that hasn't really been explored in film yet: how Ukrainians have rebuilt their lives in the months and years after the drama and tragedy of those initial months of the war. There have been a number of very necessary documentaries that examine that period ("20 Days in Mariupol" comes to mind) but in our view it's equally important to look at what comes next. Perhaps the most heart-warming thing was reading the reviews of people who had watched our film: "The film reminded me of the importance of compassion and support during hard times." "The topic of war and its aftermath is always heavy, but you handled it with dignity." "A tender and delicate portrayal of not only the impacts of war, but the strength, courage and relationships that go into rebuilding and reholding community and self in the aftermath. The film demonstrated this in a deeply honest, intimate and human way." Thank you to Pavel Starikin and everyone at Live Screenings Network for organising the festival. The standard of films across the board was really high and we thoroughly enjoyed participating in it. This week saw some great news for us at Blue Whale Global Media, as one of our first solo productions was selected for the 4th edition of the Doc Screenings Documentary Film Festival in Tbilisi, Georgia, which is taking place next week from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th October. "Ukrainian Voices: Bud'mo" was devised and directed by Joseph Terry and explores how three Ukrainian women of different generations have settled in the United Kingdom after fleeing their homes at beginning of the War in Ukraine in 2022. We are delighted and honoured that this film is getting such a prestigious platform and we really look forward to participating in the festival. Judging by the other films that are being shown, it promises to be an insightful and impactful festival about the human condition. At Blue Whale Global Media, we experienced a major milestone two weeks ago today when senior producers Rico and Remy hosted a private viewing party of a film we've been making over the past year. "Ukrainian Voices: Bud'mo" is a short documentary inspired by the experiences of director Joseph Terry when he hosted refugees from Ukraine in 2022. Since the start of the war, the United Kingdom has welcomed over 200,000 refugees from Ukraine, the majority of them women. If you look at Europe as a whole, that number is nearly seven million. Each arrival is a life turned upside down, an individual processing serious trauma, but they've all had no choice but to carry on. The documentary takes three women from different generations and explores what their lives have been like in England for the last two years, as they adapt in unfamiliar surroundings while the conflict rages back home. The title comes from the Ukrainian tradition of toast-giving and literally means 'Let us be'. It encapsulates the dignity, resilience and quiet determination that countless Ukrainian refugees have shown since they were forced to flee their homes. This is an honest, moving and at times uplifting portrayal of three ordinary women who have had to cope in extraordinary conditions, without letting it break their spirit. It was truly humbling to watch the film in the presence of our heroines and then listen to them talk about their experiences in person during a Q&A afterwards. Ariana (14), Inna (40) and Lydia (73) are all inspirational people and their stories deserve to reach the widest possible audience. BLUE WHALE IS NOW RECRUITING SPORTS TRANSLATORS FOR: FRENCH & GERMAN Blue Whale is looking for both #native #English speakers with #French and/or #German in their #language combination, as well as French and German native speakers with a good command of English. English native speakers will work on "into English" jobs, mainly audio-to-text #translations, but also shorter text-to-text translations on the odd occasion, with opportunities to also create #subtitles. French and German natives will also work on those same tasks, but will also be tasked with jobs into their mother tongue, whether that be in the form of text-to-text translations or audio-to-text translations & #transcriptions. These two #languages are crucial in the world of sports and for both #UEFA & #FIFA, with whom we work with year-round in order to translate their content, as well as with leading production companies. A keen passion for and knowledge of #sports, particularly #football, its nuances and terminology is desired. Past experience in sports and audio-to-text translation will be looked upon favourably but is not essential. As the World Cup in 2026 in #Canada, #Mexico and #UnitedStates draws closer, more and more content is being produced for audiences in the #Americas and during the Americas time zones. At Blue Whale, we're now looking to bring on more translators based in North, Central & South #America to join our hashtag #Arabic, #BRPortuguese, #French, #German & #Spanish #translation teams as remote freelancers. We are looking for #native #English speakers who have one or more of those #languages in their combination, who will work primarily on audio-to-text translations from those languages into English. We're also looking for hashtag #native speakers of those five languages who have strong English to work on audio-to-text translations into English & into their mother tongue, as well as mother tongue audio-to-text transcriptions. On top of that, you will also have the opportunity to work on English > mother tongue text-to-text translations.
