Unlocking green fuels from seawater. Building the world's leading seawater electrolyzer.
Over ons
Brineworks is building a highly efficient, patent-pending seawater electrolyzer. This invention enables the low-cost extraction of CO2 through Direct Ocean Capture, along with the significant co-production of H2, the two building blocks of e-fuels. Our mission is to help rapidly decarbonize sectors like aviation and maritime by harnessing the power of cutting-edge electrochemistry.

This week, we officially opened our first pilot in Gran Canaria! 🌊 This pilot is a major milestone for us at Brineworks, marking the first demonstration of our breakthrough electrolyzer technology. Our aim is simple: make sustainable, affordable, and abundant CO2 accessible for e-fuels and for permanent carbon removal. This pilot is a major step in showing the potential of Direct Ocean Capture to help decarbonize at scale. 🌍 At Brineworks, we come from all corners of the world—China, India, Egypt, the US, the Netherlands, and Iceland. Despite our diverse cultures, religions, and backgrounds, we are united by one mission: to help fight our way out of global warming. This pilot is named after our lead pilot engineer's hometown, Cairo, as a tribute to the people we care about. It reminds us why we are here—working not just for the planet, but for our loved ones across the globe, whose future depends on reversing climate change. 🤝 A huge thanks to our incredible partners at Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias and DESAL+ Living Lab. It was great to have Gonzalo Piernavieja Izquierdo ITC and Cosme García Falcón from SPEGC at the opening. The support and commitment of these organizations has been key for this pilot. Stay tuned for more updates as we make progress here in Gran Canaria.

Thanks Sustainability In The Air and Dirk Singer for the detailed coverage!
Can the oceans fuel the future of aviation? Dutch startup Brineworks thinks so. Brineworks is developing a method to extract CO2 from seawater, which could potentially provide the large quantities of CO2 needed for sustainable fuel production at a considerably lower cost than current carbon capture methods. CEO Gudfinnur Sveinsson says that this seawater-based method could slash production costs and open new locations for SAF, wherever coastlines and renewable energy meet. To stop our addiction to fossil fuels, we need to build alternatives that provide sustainable energy independence. ⚡🔋🌊 The startup Brineworks has built a seawater electrolyzer powered by a direct ocean capture system that can offer fuel independence to ships, planes, and even seaports. All they need is water and salt. Discover how they make sustainable e-fuel out of seawater in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/gg2EjqCW #energytransition #greentechnology #greenenergy
