For three years the UK has supported Ukraine in opposition to Russia's unprovoked, premeditated, and barbaric full-scale invasion. As we mark this grim anniversary, we must remember Ukraine's security matters to us all. As Prime Minister Keir Starmer said "If Ukraine fails, Europe will be next". The UK remains committed to doing everything we can to get the best outcome for Ukraine. Stepping up military support, the UK is providing £4.5bn in support this year. Dialling up economic pressure, the UK announced the largest package of sanctions since the start of the war. Using our collective strength to ensure lasting peace for Ukraine. Yesterday, ahead of today's anniversary, we celebrated Ukraine's culture. Two artists performed outside our embassy in The Hague. This "Echos of Resilience" performance was part of the VATAHA Foundation "Lost voices, Unbroken spirit" event taking place across Rotterdam and The Hague. A reminder of Ukraine's vibrant and unique culture.

Last week, UK Deputy Ambassador Keith Allan hosted a screening of 'North Sea Untamed' at Campusatsea, overlooking the star of the show - the North Sea! We were joined by the film's creator, underwater cinematographer Peter van Rodijnen, for a Q&A to discuss the backstory to the film and its depiction of the fascinating underwater world of the North Sea that remains largely ‘unknown’ to most people. This was followed by a panel discussion with: 🌊 - Chloe Meacher, Head of UK Marine Strategy & Spatial Prioritisation Programme at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 🌊 - Bernard Baerends, Coordinator of International Marine Nature Policy at the Ministerie van Landbouw, Visserij, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur They discussed how the UK and the Netherlands can work together to balance economic activity and the energy transition in the North Sea alongside our shared responsibility to protect its delicate natural ecosystems for generations to come. Many thanks to our panellists and to moderator Jennifer Cosgrave, Director of the British Council for the Netherlands, Norway & Sweden for facilitating the conversation! On Tuesday, UK Deputy Ambassador Keith Allan hosted a panel event focused on what the UK and the Netherlands can learn from each other in the development of industrial policy. Providing a platform for bilateral collaboration and exchange with a focus on securing economic growth through industrial policy, the event bought together academia, industry, and UK and Dutch officials to share insights into what successful industrial policy looks like. Ahead of the publication of the new UK Industrial Strategy in Spring 2025, the panel discussion focused on understanding where the opportunities for further collaboration between the UK and Netherlands lie. When crafting modern industrial policy, international collaboration is key to supporting scale-ups and providing businesses with access to international markets. We heard from key note speaker Dr Carlos López-Gómez on the global trends in manufacturing and industrial policy, and why it is of increased focus for policymakers. This was followed by a panel discussion with: ➡️ Andrew Parry, Head of Innovation Policy and Service Sectors for the forthcoming UK Industrial Strategy ➡️ Wolf Zwartkruis, Lead Strategist on Industrial Policy at Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat ➡️ Heba Bevan, OBE, Chair of NETHERLANDS-BRITISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE(THE) of Commerce ➡️ Professor Gregory Thwaites, Research Director at the Resolution Foundation ➡️ Willem Wensing, Director of Public Affairs at FME Many thanks to our keynote speaker, panellists and all attendees for making this event a success!

Last week UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Dutch Minister-president Dick Schoof in London. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the UK's reset of its relationship with the EU, following Prime Minister Starmer's attendance at the Informal European Council meeting in Brussels a week ago. Reflecting on the strength and breadth of the UK-Netherlands relationship the two Prime Ministers also discussed: 🧪 Pursuing a new innovation partnership - to seize the opportunities offered by new and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum, and semiconductors. 👮 Enhancing existing cooperation to tackle serious and organised crime, looking at how the UK and the Netherlands can continue to work together to disrupt and stop gangs - including those responsible for people smuggling. 👉 Reaffirming iron-clad support for Ukraine, and our joint work to ensure Ukraine is in the strongest position possible. 🤝 Working towards a new bilateral security partnership. Finally both Prime Ministers reflected on the resumption of direct Eurostar services between Amsterdam and London from today! Read more about the meeting - https://lnkd.in/eU9Ap_77
