Venezuelan opposition leaders María Corina Machado and Edmundo González were awarded The 2024 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought by the Eurpean Parliment. - Dr Gubad Ibadoghlu, academic and anti-corruption activist in #Azerbaijan; and - "Women Wage Peace" and "Women of the Sun", #Israel / #Palestine." were other two finalists. The Sakharov Prize - what it is about Awarded for the first time in 1988 to #NelsonMandela and #AnatoliMarchenko, the #Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought is the highest tribute paid by the European Parliament to human rights work. It gives recognition to individuals, groups and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to protecting #freedomofthought.
