We are very proud of our colleague prof. Liesbeth Janssen, recipient of this year's NWO (Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek) (Dutch Research Council) Athena Award. 👏 Prof. Janssen not only is an outstanding scientist, she is a kind, considerate, and effective leader. NWO rewards her also for her active role in promoting diversity and inclusion. Which for prof. Janssen goes beyond gender: “Good science requires different ideas, creativity, and new perspectives. For that, you need different people in all dimensions. Think of gender, ethnicity, neurodiversity, background, skills, and differences in the topics they work on. With a diverse team, you can innovate more easily, switch faster, and respond better to important developments.” Congratulations prof. Janssen! 🎉 Read the full story of prof. With great pride and honor we can say that after years of research, TU/e scientists Jom Luiten, Peter Mutsaers, Coen Sweers and Ids van Elk have successfully generated high-quality hard X-rays. 💥 That this is possible with a device with the compact dimensions as the one in our lab is unique in the world. And it for sure doesn't end here! Read about the road to this success in the article here 👇 https://lnkd.in/eDVgYJjB Huge congratulations to the team! 👏
After years of research, TU/e scientists (in the picture left to right) Coen Sweers, Peter Mutsaers, Jom Luiten, and Ids van Elk have successfully generated high-quality hard X-rays with a compact device. 💡 An X-ray device as compact as this opens up new avenues of research and imaging 🔬, such as material research of art and archeological specimens in musea, medical research on arteriosclerosis, and checking the alignment of printed layers in semiconductor productions. The power level of the X-rays from their set-up, with the compact copper particle accelerator shown in the picture, fits right between the low levels of the X-ray machines in hospitals and the superpowered facilities like the vast ESRF synchrotron in Grenoble. 👏 Their journey to create this brand-new device and get it to work reads like a tale of adventure and discovery, and it is by no means ending here. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDVgYJjB Interreg Vlaanderen-Nederland #interreg #TUDelft #UniversiteitAntwerpen #UniversiteitGent #röntgenradiation #particleaccellerator #synchrotron #firstlight #Xray

💥 November 9 marks the kick off of the first community activity of the MasterPlus Programme. A first timer for all our students from Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, TU Delft and University of Twente to meet and get to know one another. This time we visited the Philips Museum in Eindhoven, learning about the history of Philips, and even more on their innovations and the role of optics and photonics in healthcare. 🔬Especially in fiber sensing for example – where optics are used in endoscopes and catheters, allowing doctors to see in real time and in 3D inside the body with minimal incisions, a technology which is now adopted in many hospitals. Or real time monitoring in temperature, pressure and biochemical, extremely useful in critical care and during surgeries. ⚡ These are just a few examples of what is possible with Optics & Photonics and a very small insight to everything you can learn in the MasterPlus Programme. 🍽 We ended the day with a nice dinner together. With 30 students joining we are looking back to a very successful start and we are looking forward to many more of these events! 💥 Thank you PhotonDelta, Optics Netherlands and Philips Museum for this successful event. ❗ More info on the MasterPlus Optics & Photonics programme: https://lnkd.in/eWMKD-9h 📸 by Saskia Holtjer

🚀 Bringing Space Closer to Eindhoven! 🌍 The Aster in Space student team at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) has brought space closer to the city. Their Icarus satellite reached an impressive 34.8 km altitude using a weather balloon. “This test was a key step toward space,” says team lead Fares Abuelhassan, as the team tested crucial components like communication and power. Despite a minor issue with the solar panels, the test yielded valuable insights. Local company PhotonFirst joined the project, testing their photonics technology - an exciting collaboration highlighting Eindhoven's innovation potential for space applications. Brainport’s potential While TU/e doesn’t have an aerospace program, Brainport’s knowledge base and TU/e’s support bring students together with industry pioneers, share knowledge, expertise and learnings, and creating a vibrant community around space exploration in Eindhoven. Congrats to Team Aster! 🌌 Read the full article here 👇 https://lnkd.in/etBQh4FP #SpaceInnovation #Eindhoven #TUe #Aerospace #Brainport
