✨ Wind energy is driving our agenda these days! 🌟 Today Ambassador Claudia Pieterse and Senior Economic Officer Indra Freiberga met with State Secretary Līga Kurevska (née Sadoviča) and Deputy State Secretary, Līga Rozentāle of the Klimata un enerģētikas ministrija/Ministry of Climate and Energy Energy. Cooperation between the 🇳🇱 and the 🇱🇻 was discussed in the context of the increasing importance of green energy and renewables, sustainability and innovation. ✔️ We would also like to thank our partners (Latvian Wind Energy Association, Embassy of Denmark in Latvia, UKinLatvia British Embassy Riga, and Utilitas) for the well-attended and informative seminar that took place in Riga last week Thursday, on the topic of how local communities can benefit from wind farms. A special thank you also to Jan Eggenkamp from the company Witteveen+Bos + Bos for his insights into the Dutch perspective on this topic. The seminar has shown how local authorities, developers, NGO’s and communities can cooperate together in a practical way, in a spirit of open communication and cooperation, to benefit from wind farms, while also meeting any challenges along the way. #NLinLV #climateandenergy #windenergy #opportunities Katrīna Duka-Gulbe Gatis Galviņš Aldis Celms Inese Leja-Raphael Oskars Zivtiņš Bastiaan B.
Last week it was my pleasure to organize and moderate a conference of Latvian Wind Energy Association: "How can Local Communities benefit from Wind Farms?". Main findings: 👉 Limited time for public hearings and discussions tends to create an emotional reaction of local residents, therefore it is essential to communicate about future wind farms in a timely manner. 👉 Respect what is important for local people. 👉 Myths about wind turbines should not be run away from, they should be addressed by creating a constructive dialogue and explained with facts; 👉 It is normal not to be happy abut wind farm. 👉 The challenge and advantage of wind energy is that wind farms are cheap to maintain and do not require a large workforce. Therefore, we need to find other ways to contribute to the local community: infrastructure projects, supporting local activities for youth, seniors etc.), tourism etc. 👉 In wind energy projects, there is rarely a problem that has not already been solved somewhere else. That's why it's so important to share experiences. 👓 A full recording of the conference here: http://ej.uz/WEAConference I am gratitude to our professional and charismatic speakers, moderators and people who supported us: Toms Nāburgs (Sunly), Merily Müürsepp, Aldis Celms (Latvijas vēstniecība Apvienotajā Karalistē | Embassy of Latvia to the UK), Renārs Urbanovičs (Utilitas), Līga Rozentāle (Klimata un enerģētikas ministrija/Ministry of Climate and Energy), Indra Freiberga (Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Latvia), Inese Leja-Raphael (Embassy of Denmark in Latvia), Guy Willems (WindEurope), Michael Seidelin Haustorp (Lemvig Kommune), Raivis Kalējs, Lauris Baltins (Latvenergo AS), Artūrs Toms Plešs (Eurowind Energy), Jan Eggenkamp (Witteveen+Bos), Scott Hamilton (Green Man Consulting Ltd, Kristine Leontjeva (Ignitis Group Latvija), Aldis Celms.
