Equal Asia Foundation and disability activists and allies at ILGA World’s disability pre-conference found solidarity and strength in each other. A shared vision united them for an ILGA that embodies radical disability inclusion. This statement calls for an ILGA that integrates disability justice as a core principle, recognises and respects intersectional identities, and commits to creating fully accessible spaces and practices. The activists outlined a framework with four key pillars for action: - Institutional Commitment and Policy Reform – Develop a disability inclusion policy, form a Disability Justice Task Force, and ensure anti-ableism training for all members. - Accessibility Standards – Establish comprehensive accessibility guidelines for events, make all communications accessible, and create a dedicated budget for accommodations. - Disabled Leadership and Representation – Prioritize disabled voices in leadership, create mentorship opportunities, and promote disabled narratives within ILGA. - Support for Grassroots Activists – Establish funding for disabled-led grassroots projects, facilitate regional peer networks, and build alliances with disability rights organisations. This call to action urges ILGA members to join in building an organisation that honours disability as integral to the LGBTIQ+ movement, ensuring that ILGA becomes a home for everyone. https://lnkd.in/gANu3DUU

“Queer ideology is a Western Import” is a common line touted by anti-gender actors in Asia Pacific, but it is a line that is factually wrong. Trans identities have existed in Asia Pacific long before the age of colonization. In fact, the real Western import was the homophobia and transphobia colonizers brought along with them, evident in the use of section 377A imported by British law. We have always been here. We will continue to be here, and no rule, law, or legislation can eradicate queer and trans identities from the Asia Pacific. #LGBTQHistoryMonth #TransRights #LGBTQRights

Help us raise funds for scholarships for LGBTIQ+ persons with lived experience of displacement to attend the 2025 Queer Displacements conference. https://lnkd.in/gfWVCgPe
For LGBTIQA+ refugee-led organisations like FDPN, the challenges of securing sustainable resources and recognition are immense. As a refugee-led organisation (RLO), securing funding is already an uphill battle, but for an LGBTIQA+ RLO, the situation is even more difficult due to multiple layers of marginalisation. Funders often focus on direct service delivery, leaving systemic advocacy—critical for long-term change—underfunded. Read the following data carefully. Globally, LGBTIQA+ organisations receive only 35 cents for every $100 given by foundations and just 4 cents for every $100 from governments. Within this already limited pool, LGBTIQA+ refugee issues receive less than 1% of LGBTIQA+ funding globally and in the Asia-Pacific region. To put it in perspective, that's less than 0.35 cents and 0.04 cents, respectively, for every $100. To further highlight this disparity, consider this: in the past two years, 3 anti-trans organisations received $1 billion in funding, while 8,000 LGBTIQA+ organisations globally received less than $905 million collectively. The specific needs and experiences of LGBTIQA+ forcibly displaced people remain largely misunderstood and ignored, even within mainstream LGBTIQA+ spaces. This lack of awareness reinforces the marginalisation we face, and it underscores the critical importance of the Queer Displacements Conference. As the only event in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region led by LGBTIQA+ refugees, the conference amplifies the voices of those who are often sidelined, even within broader LGBTIQA+ spaces. Today, on National GiveOut Day, we are raising funds to support scholarships for LGBTIQA+ refugees and people seeking asylum, helping them attend the Queer Displacements Conference. These scholarships ensure that those who need it most can participate in crucial conversations and help drive systemic change. Your donation will help cover travel, accommodation, and conference registration, providing an essential opportunity for those who are often left out of the conversation. Donate today and help us investing in the future of LGBTIQA+ refugee leadership. #QueerDisplacements #giveoutday24 @giveout_au https://lnkd.in/gfWVCgPe

In the past month, we observed a growing of Disinformation, Misinformation, and Hate speech (MDH) on migration in Thailand targeting migrants and refugees, especially people from Myanmar. They spread false narratives that fuel xenophobia, economic fears, and political manipulation. Common themes include false accusations of crime, citizenship-related misinformation, threatening the economy by taking jobs, and defaming as the enemies of the state. Politicians and social media influencers exploited these fears for political and financial gains, leading to harsher migration policies and practices. Right-wing media and some conservative public figures amplify these narratives to the public to revive the ghost of nationalism. These MDH messages have been translated to the migrant community by migrant influencers, creating fear among the migrant community. This pressure led to a few cases of reaction. The situation requires close monitoring to see whether it will be resolved or if it will further escalate tensions between the host and migrant communities. What is certain, however, is that the root of the problem lies in the fact that we have neglected this issue for far too long, choosing to sweep the problems under the carpet. As a result, people have become aware of the increasing number of migrants living in society and are now quickly reacting to this xenophobic incitement. #Xenophobia #Migration #Thailand
