  • 📢 Launched today: National Authorities against Impunity Project #IMPNA   The number of armed conflicts worldwide has doubled over the last five years, leading to a stark increase in war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity. This brings particular challenges for the international community to pursue accountability and get justice done for victims.   ⚖️ This project, which is funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Partnerships, aims to contribute to justice & accountability efforts for core international crimes by bolstering cooperation with civil society & national authorities both in- and outside the EU. It will be implemented and hosted by Eurojust and the Genocide Network Secretariat.   💪 Together, we can work towards a world where there are no safe havens for perpetrators of these crimes.   Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/ewnZ7bd7

  • 🤔 What happens when evidence in a criminal investigation is located in different EU Member States? ⚖️ Enter the EIO or European Investigation Order. The EIO offers judicial authorities a simpler and faster alternative to the traditional instruments for requesting evidence. It is based on mutual recognition, which means that the executing authority is, in principle, obliged to recognise and ensure execution of the request of the other country. Eurojust plays an important role in providing guidance and support to EU national authorities, enabling them to extract the full benefits of this vital instrument. 📽️ Find out more 👉 https://lnkd.in/eneiGnCq

  • ⚠️ Coordinated action against illegal labour & tax evasion. 🔎 Eurojust supported German and Slovenian authorities during their investigation into the fraud, which led to the arrest of three main suspects. 🏗️ The alleged perpetrators set-up at least two Slovenian shell companies as subcontractors or service providers to facilitate the posting of Bosnian workers on German building sites. The labourers were trafficked to Germany with fake work visas and without paying social security contributions. 💶 It's estimated that the illegal activities deprived German tax authorities of approximately EUR 12 million.
