Celebrating the highest achievements in European quality journalism.
Over ons
The aim of the European Press Prize is simple: to salute and encourage journalism of the highest quality wherever it can be found in our continent. Journalists from all 46 countries of Europe as defined by the Council of Europe membership plus Belarus and Russia are eligible to enter their work. Open for entries until December 15, 2023, via link in bio. Quality journalism is of vital importance to healthy democracies, especially in a time when information is omnipresent. Unfortunately, because of a transforming and pressured market, quality has become increasingly difficult to maintain. To help counter the effects of these transformations was one of the reasons the European Press Prize was envisioned. Formed by seven independent European foundations that all have strong media connections, all of which count excellence and public service as part of their collective challenge. From our archives 📚 One powerful story: "How We Stopped Being Comrades". Beata Balogová was one of the students protesting against the Communist regime in Slovakia back in 1989, the year of the Velvet Revolution. In her article, she recalls how little they knew about freedom back then, and how little they understood all the challenges that freedom brought to the post-Soviet block. This piece, by our now Board member @BalogovaBeata, won our 2019 Opinion Award (now Public Discourse). Read it here: https://buff.ly/4byj7Kd #journalism #europeanpressprize

Why does our newsroom exist? ✨ Cristian Lupşa, Chair of our PrepCom, turned this question into a brilliant capstone project with which he graduated from the CUNY News Innovation and Leadership programme this summer. Journalism is a high-pressure profession, and the responsibility of delivering top-quality reporting can sometimes weigh heavily on journalists. This is why awareness around mental well-being in the field is steadily growing. Our Laureate Elena Ledda talks about the topic, interviewed by iMEdD - incubator for Media Education and Development during their International Journalism Forum. #mentalhealth #journalism #europeanpressprize
