One of our 3-ton electric winches has been delivered to the Jan De Nul Group for use aboard of their dredger: Galileo Galilei. This hopper dredger is made to efficiently extract materials like sand, clay, silt and gravel from the seabed using pumps and motors. 🌊 The Galileo Galilei has two separated hoppers on board, which is a special feature of this vessel that is unique in Jan De Nul's hopper fleet. Our winches are used in many different industries for many different tasks. The winch shown in this photo is used for dredging. For this specific case dredging includes all the work required for removing silt, sand, rocks and other forms of debris from the bottom of all sorts of water bodies. Cargo ships move a lot of goods around the world every day and they require deep water to travel in shipping channels. The natural process of sedimentation causes these shipping channels to fill up with the likes of silt and sand, which then reduces the depth of the shipping channels. Every vessel requires a certain amount of water to float and that is why dredging is so important. For this specific case Gebuwin supplied Boskalis with a manual winch, which the operator uses to lower the dredging system to the bottom of the water body. Most of our winches are being subjected to frequent and heavy use, so product reliability is very important. Product reliability is also important when the winch is used infrequently or maybe not even at all. For this specific case the customer used one of our electric winches on a trolley containing nuclear waste. These trolleys are being used to safely transport the nuclear waste from one company to the other. Our electric winches serve a very specific role in this project, hence the need for a reliable product.
