[Poster presented at ASHG 2024] Detection of a pathogenic PRKN inversion by a novel DNA-RNA combined analysis of structural variants using SVDuo to apply a multistep pipeline. 🌈 SVs in a person's genetic makeup are not well understood. Only recently in history with high-throughput technologies has SVs become better understood. 💡So, what exactly are SVs⁉️ Structural variants are large-scale alterations in the genome that involve segments of DNA ranging from about 50 base pairs to several million base pairs. These changes can have significant effects on gene function and genome organization. 💡Types of structural variants include: Insertions: Addition of DNA segments into the genome. Deletions: Loss of DNA segments. Duplications: Extra copies of a DNA segment. Inversions: A segment of DNA is reversed within the genome.
