🌱 FAO Report: Rethinking Plastics in Agriculture with Circular Solutions 🌍 A new FAO report highlights the urgent need to reduce plastic use in agriculture and transition to circular bioeconomy approaches. With growing concerns over microplastics, environmental impact, and human health, the report underscores the role of bio-based and biodegradable materials in creating more sustainable systems. 🔎 Key insights: ✅ Bio-based materials align with circularity principles, helping to reduce emissions and environmental pollution ✅ Biomass-based alternatives to non-renewable materials offer sustainable solutions for industry and agriculture ✅ Biodegradable mulch films present a promising example of preventing microplastics accumulation and protecting human health. At GO!PHA, we see this as a step forward in advancing sustainable material solutions that align with both science and policy. Moving beyond conventional plastics, bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable materials (BBCMs) play a critical role in ensuring a circular economy—one that balances environmental responsibility with practical industry adoption. 💡 What’s next? How can we scale bio-based solutions in agriculture? Let’s discuss! 💬 📌 Read the full FAO report: https://lnkd.in/e2dGFtKc #CircularBioeconomy #SustainableAgriculture #PHA #Microplastics #PlasticPollution #CircularEconomy #FAO

🌿 New EU Biotech & Biomanufacturing Hub: A Game-Changer for Start-ups & SMEs 🚀 The European Commission has launched a new Biotech and Biomanufacturing Hub, a crucial operational tool designed to support start-ups and SMEs in navigating regulatory frameworks and scaling their innovations. At GO!PHA, we recognize the challenges biotech companies face when bringing bio-based, biodegradable, and compostable materials (BBMs) like PHA to market. This Hub—one of the key deliverables of the EU Biotech and Biomanufacturing Communication (March 2024)—bridges these gaps by offering clear, accessible guidance (in all EU languages) on: ✅ EU Funding Sources – A breakdown of available grants and investments for biotech & biomanufacturing businesses. ✅ R&D Infrastructure – Research networks, pilot facilities, and testing centers to support innovation. ✅ Scaling Resources – Market insights, business networks, and facilities to help companies commercialize. ✅ Intellectual Property Protection – Ensuring innovative solutions are safeguarded in the EU. ✅ Product Authorization – Guidance on regulatory approvals for biotech products, from medicines to food ingredients. ✅ Compliance & Market Access – Clear explanations of EU rules for developing and marketing biotech innovations. 🔎 As the bio-based sector expands, tools like this are vital to ensuring that sustainable substitute and alternative materials contribute to a circular, sustainable economy. How can we make regulatory frameworks even more supportive of bio-based solutions? Let’s discuss! 💬 📌 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eMtyn6sg #Biotech #Biomanufacturing #BioBasedMaterials #CircularEconomy #PHA #EURegulations

A recent study published in Nature Medicine has identified the presence of microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) in human brain tissue. This discovery raises concerns about the potential health implications of MNP exposure. MNPs enter the human body through inhalation, ingestion, and possibly even direct absorption. Common sources include plastic-packaged food, water, and air pollution. As the global production and use of plastics continue to rise, understanding the pathways through which MNPs enter the human body and their subsequent effects is crucial. This research underscores the need for comprehensive studies to assess the impact of MNPs on human health and to develop strategies to mitigate exposure. 🔍 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e2NApxgA At GO!PHA, we are committed to advancing research in this area and promoting policies that protect public health from emerging environmental hazards! #Microplastics #Nanoplastics #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #GOPHA
