ILX is the fund manager of ILX Fund I, a private debt fund that provides institutional investors access to investment opportunities in the global development finance asset class, directly targeting sustainable development and climate finance projects across the emerging markets. The fund’s investment strategy allows investors to benefit from the Multilateral Development Banks (MDB) and Development Finance Institutions’ (DFI) long-standing track record of successfully investing in key economic sectors across the emerging markets, to deliver attractive risk-adjusted returns to its investors whilst mitigating ESG risks and delivering positive, direct SDG-related impact results by investing in loans that contribute to the ILX Sustainability Themes.

Despite the potential, institutional investors such as pension funds still allocate relatively little to EMs. With the perception that these markets are underperformers, investors' struggle to prioritise them. However, a longer-term perspective shows they can outperform developed markets. Partnering with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) is the ideal way to mitigate risks and give investors the confidence needed. Their extensive experience and local presence in EMs makes them multifaceted experts in this field. Addressing these systemic issues requires a collaborative approach between the public and private sectors, and it will give the chance to create scalable investment opportunities with market-equivalent risk-adjusted returns. 🗣️ This week, ILX's CIO, Elvira Eurlings, travelled to Miami to attend the Global Banking & Markets: Latin America - Bonds, Loans and ESG. She participated in the panel "Development Finance as an Asset Class: Demystifying Perception vs. Reality", where she discussed the performance of the development finance asset class, the perception of risk, and how can Emerging Markets investment be increased. Elvira was joined by Diego Ocampo from S&P Global, Arsalan Mahtafar from J.P. Morgan, and Jean-Baptiste Piette from Santander, while the panel was moderated by Jozef Henriquez from IDB Invest. 🌍 At #COP29, world leaders committed to mobilising $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 to support climate action in Emerging Markets. This includes $300 billion each year coming from developed countries. ILX, while participating in various senior-level panel discussions, highlighted the central role of Multilateral Development Banks when closing the financing gap. These institutions aim to mobilise $65 billion from the private sector towards emerging markets in addition to their $120 billion collective climate financing.
