During a hot week, we closely monitored the temperature of the cold water pipe of a 3rd-floor shower, and the results were fascinating. Day 1 (28th July): The temperature starts at a stable 22°C. As the day progresses, with no use, the temperature begins to climb slowly due to the ambient heat and lack of water flow. Day 2 (29th July): The temperature continues its upward trend, peaking during the hottest parts of the day and slightly stabilising at night. Day 3 (30th July): The lack of shower usage means there's no cold water flushing through the pipes, allowing the temperature to rise steadily. Day 4 (31st July): The temperature graph shows a clear pattern: higher peaks during the day and minor drops at night. The highest recorded temperature is 23.17°C. This consistent rise highlights a critical issue. This phenomenon underscores the importance of temperature control and the need for regular checks on infrequently used outlets. When such outlets aren't used, the water stagnates, and the temperature rises, creating an ideal environment for Legionella bacteria growth, which can pose significant health risks.
