Kleine aanpassing, grote impact! 🌍 “Met relatief kleine aanpassingen in de wereldwijde vleesproductie kunnen we enorme klimaatvoordelen behalen”, zegt hoofdonderzoeker Matthew Hayek van de New York University. Uit een nieuwe studie blijkt nu dat zelfs een kleine vermindering van de vleesproductie, enkel door rijkere landen, een grote impact heeft. 🌎 De onderzoekers stellen dat een vermindering van zo’n 13 procent van de vleesproductie in welvarende landen ervoor kan zorgen dat de hoeveelheid land voor veeteelt aanzienlijk vermindert. Daardoor kan bos zich op natuurlijke wijze herstellen op het vrijgekomen grasland. Deze extra bomen leveren een flinke bijdrage aan de daling van de uitstoot van broeikasgassen doordat ze veel CO2 opnemen. We hebben het hier over het verwijderen van maar liefst 125 miljard ton koolstofdioxide uit de atmosfeer. De onderzoekers rekenen ons voor dat de effecten van deze bosaanwas overeenkomen met de wereldwijde uitstoot van alle fossiele brandstoffen in de afgelopen drie jaar. “We hebben de focus gelegd op gebieden met een hoge koolstofopnamecapaciteit, en herstelstrategieën uitgestippeld om het klimaatvoordeel te maximaliseren met minimale impact op de voedselvoorziening.” Bron: Scientias.nl voor het hele onderzoek. 👇📰👇 Welke invloed kun jezelf hebben volgens 90% van de wetenschap? 1.
