The Benefits of Natural Mentoring ✨ Mentoring isn’t always formal. In fact, some of the most impactful mentoring relationships happen naturally - between youth and trusted adults like teachers, coaches, neighbors, or supervisors. This is known as natural mentoring, and its benefits are profound. Why Natural Mentoring Matters 🤔? Research shows that youth with natural mentors experience better emotional wellbeing, stronger academic performance, and greater resilience. A study cited in the article “Natural Mentoring is Good for All Youth” highlights these outcomes: - 55% more likely to enroll in college - Improved coping skills and reduced engagement in risky behaviors - Greater support for marginalized youth, helping bridge gaps in resources and opportunities How Can We Encourage Natural Mentoring? 1. Recognize Opportunities: Look for moments where you can step in to provide guidance, even in informal ways. 2. Engage With Youth in Your Circle: Whether it’s a colleague, a neighbor, or someone in your community, small acts of guidance can spark meaningful relationships. 3. Spread Awareness: Many adults may not realize the profound impact they can have by simply being present and supportive. Your Turn 🫵🏽 Have you ever had a natural mentor? Or have you been one to someone else ? ⬇️Share your experiences in the comments - your story might inspire someone to embrace this role ✨ #NaturalMentoring #MentoringEurope #Mentoring

✨Reflecting on Last Year’s Advocacy Event: My Mentoring Journey✨ Around this time last year, we hosted an advocacy event in Brussels at the Neth-Er - a 🔑 moment for Mentoring Europe and for me personally. It was the first time I’ve ever shared my mentoring story: "To be honest, my whole life I had never really heard the word mentoring nor did I know what the word meant. When I first started my internship at Mentoring Europe, I was so confused about what the whole fuss about mentoring was until I spent more and more time learning about it. And during that time, I started to notice how many mentors I’d actually had throughout my whole life, and without them, I wouldn’t have been able to become what I am now. I believe that mentoring is important because it’s something that pushes people forward and gives them the strength to unleash their full potential." This realization has stayed with me. I firmly believe mentoring should be more accessible, especially for young people. But this post isn’t just about my story. It’s about your story too. Whether you’re a mentor, mentee, or someone who’s been positively influenced by mentoring, I’d love to hear your experience 🙌🏾. 👉🏾 How did you first learn about mentoring? 👉🏾 If you’ve been a mentor, what inspired you to take on that role, and what impact has it had on you ? Can Everyone Be a Mentor 🤔? Reflections on the Poll Results Last week, I posted a poll on LinkedIn asking a simple but thought-provoking question: Can everyone be a mentor? The responses were clear - 67% of people said no, while only 33% felt that anyone could step into a mentoring role. As a student, I often think that anyone with experience or knowledge to share could make a meaningful mentor. But the poll results suggest that many believe mentoring requires specific qualities and skills. This point of view raises an interesting question: are there aspects of mentoring that, from my perspective as a student, I might not fully recognize yet? I’d love to hear from you! What do you feel are key qualities or challenges that make mentoring a specialized role ? Share your thoughts in the comments below ⬇️ #CanEveryoneBeAMentor? #Mentoring #MentoringEurope

The Challenges of Mentoring: Let’s Talk About It 💼 Mentoring can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it’s not without its challenges. According to research by Allen & Eby (2008), common issues in mentoring relationships include mismatched expectations, communication barriers, and the struggle to find a good mentor-mentee fit. Even when intentions are high, these obstacles can prevent mentoring relationships from reaching their full potential. Some 🔑 challenges mentors and mentees often face: 1. Setting Clear Expectations 2. Time Constraints 3. Finding the Right Fit 4. Balancing Guidance with Independence 🗣️ Have you experienced any of these challenges in your mentoring journey?
