🏅🧬 iGEM MSP-Maastricht Wins Gold for Maastricht University! After eight intense months of work, our team has been part of the global iGEM Competition to tackle one of today’s pressing environmental issues—coastal eutrophication. We focused on developing a bioremediation solution that not only addresses nitrate pollution but also transforms it into a sustainable proteins through Single Cell Protein production. Last week, we had the incredible opportunity to present our project at the iGEM Grand Jamboree in Paris—the world’s largest synthetic biology conference. We are thrilled to announce that the 2024 MSP Maastricht iGEM team, Natronaut, has won a Gold Medal, marking the second year in Maastricht University’s history to achieve this honor! 🎉 We would like to express our gratitude to everyone that helped us in our journey: Maastricht University and Maastricht University - Faculty of Science and Engineering for giving us this unique opportunity, our amazing PIs Erik Steen Redeker and David Cortens , our advisors Kathia L. Jimenez Monroy, Chris Damour, Henry Lee and our sponsors: Universiteitsfonds Limburg, Maastricht Centre for Systems Biology (MaCSBio), New England Biolabs, Promega Corporation , Integrated DNA Technologies, SnapGene, Macrogen Inc. and Canva. Over ons
The International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education, and competition, as well as the creation of an open community and collaboration. It hosts an annual global synthetic biology student competition, the iGEM Grand Jamboree, in which teams develop projects from start to finish – from coming up with ideas to proof of concept. The projects allow students to put their knowledge to use and contribute to the field of synthetic biology by addressing specific challenges in their communities.
