Public space as infographic: this colourful installation at the heart of Bangkok Design Week, called the Mega Mat, tells a story of plastic waste and recycling! 🔴🟠🟡🟢 Located outside Bangkok's city hall, the Mega Mat is a modular piece of over 500 recycled plastic "Sua", or mats – a common household item for Thai families – showcasing the possibilities of using recycled materials in everyday objects. The bright colours add a burst of energy to the square and form an 860-square-metre infographic about Thailand’s plastic waste processing, ranging from red being the percentage of plastic waste on unsanitary landfills to green representing the amount of recycled plastic. ♻️🌈 On one corner, the Mega Mat is lifted, providing a sheltered space with an exhibition about the story of plastic waste and recycling in Thailand and the meaning behind the Mega Mat. The different colours and lifted corner also refer to the colourful roofs of the nearby Wat Suthat Thepwararam temple. The installation thus blends into its surroundings and allows people to sit on and enjoy the plaza as their outdoor living room. After the design week, the individual mats will go on to live a third life for local temples or as yoga mats or upcycled bags. 🔄 Read more on the project and our other activities at the Bangkok Design Week here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eNPXif_C Partners: Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Thailand | Creative Economy Agency | PTT Global Chemicals (GC) 📸 Depth of Field
