Short personal reviews of 31 novels on Research Integrity "Novels can realistically depict the dilemmas scholars need to navigate ... This may help them to reflect on what a good researcher is and what academic scholars can do to stay close to that ideal." https://bit.ly/409E5ff

📢 You can still register for our first event of 2025 on CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OPEN SCIENCE 📢 Check the program and registration below ⬇️
Capacity Building for Open Science - join us for a one day event at VU Amsterdam. We teamed up with Netherlands Research Integrity Network (NRIN) for a day on and about open science trainings and practices: In the morning, we welcome Marie Alavi and Julia Claire Prieß-Buchheit from University Kiel for a workshop on minimum standards for open science trainings. The workshop is followed up by a presentation by Tim Errington from the Center for Open Science on how culture change is central to adopt, scale and sustain open science practices*. In the afternoon, we welcome PhD students for a workshop on preregistration. Monday, 13 January 25, 9:30 to 15:30 hrs at VU Amsterdam Full program and registration here: https://buff.ly/3ZGYruE *Full abstract: Research can be improved to increase efficiency in the accumulation of knowledge. This requires changes to the present culture, and a number of open science practices, such as preregistration, open data and making preprints, have been proposed to help enable this change. Requiring change though is not sufficient. A strategy to enable change is required, both to start the adoption of practices and to scale and sustain those practices. This talk will present examples of implementing culture change through focused strategies and through a more decentralized approach. THIS 👇 We need to reclaim the thinking time necessary to produce quality research that move, advance or disrupt knowledge. Fundamentally this means pushing back against university managers who wrongly celebrate quantity over quality. Write better papers, write fewer papers.

🚗 NRIN-on-Tour 2025 🚗 In 2025, NRIN will go on tour to continue promoting discussions on Research Integrity, Open Science, and Responsible Conduct of Research and give visibility to the work carried out in the Dutch Universities and Universities of Applied Science to promote responsible research practices. The NRIN-on-Tour will host onsite sessions, with online streaming to those outside the Netherlands and those unable to travel to the host institution. 🚗 📍 🛑 30th January 2025 - Eindhoven University of Technology ➡️ Hackathon on Sustainability in Academia (in celebration 🎉 Andrea Kis’ PhD defence 👩🎓 - open invitation!) Join us at TU Eindhoven or online for an exciting and collaborative hackathon inspired by the themes of Andrea Kis’ dissertation on the sustainability of scientific systems. This inaugural NRIN-on-Tour event will bring together researchers, experts, and stakeholders to tackle key challenges in academia, including academic mental health, research reliability, and the experiences of PhD candidates. Participants will work in small groups led by committee members and invited guest experts to brainstorm, discuss, and develop actionable solutions or ideas for follow-up research, initiatives, and programs. Over 2 hours, each group will focus on a central theme, culminating in a presentation of innovative outcomes. Let’s collaborate to shape a more sustainable and inclusive academic future! Into the year 2025 we are starting with full speed and power 💪🏻 We are happy to announce a very interesting event on #Open #Science at VU Amsterdam on January 13th! When leading Open Science Experts from Netherlands Research Integrity Network (NRIN), Netherlands Reproducibility Network (NLRN), Center for Open Science, #NERQ and Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel join forces, the result is a fireworks on 👉🏼CAPACITY BUILDING FOR OPEN SCIENCE. Asking what the leading guidelines for #OpenScience (#OS) and OS education are, we start with a workshop for OS stakeholders presenting #NERQ’s key milestone for the OS community: The Open Science Learning Gate (#GATE, more here: https://lnkd.in/dpshHNbv) and invite participants to assess open science guidelines critically and give their feedback on the current list of OS guidelines collected be the GATE. Target audience: educators, researchers, students, librarians, data stewards, data scientists/analysts, Data research infrastructure support professionals, Research software engineers, but also policymakers, institutions, citizens and others. This will be followed by a keynote from Tim Errington (senior Director of research at Center for Open Science) on OS practices such as preregistration, open data and preprints appealing for a culture change in our research practice and enhanced by a workshop for PhD candidates on “the how and why of preregistration”. I think this is a round number for open science capacity building. 😊 ‼️ The programme and registration: https://lnkd.in/dTX86scr For those who were asking: this is an onsite event, but with regard to the #GATE we will disseminate its findings intensively also online and invite to further online workshops in 2025 and Tim Errington’s masterclass will be recorded (NRIN webpage).
