To wrap up Slush for this year, these custom-made (by Edward Lazenby and Paebbl) CO2-storing concrete letters will make their way to the Slush office! But first, they had to be experience being on Founder Stage. cc Frederic Ljung Ana Luisa Vaz

🎉 Celebrating Milestones: demo plant progress + first subsidy to co-finance it! 🌍🚀 We are thrilled to announce a major milestone in the construction of our demo plant in #Rotterdam: over half the steel structure is complete, and we've hit the highest point of the build! This marks another step forward in our mission to transform captured CO2 into permanent, carbon-storing building materials, at a pace which our planet needs us to deliver. Today we are also proud to share that we’ve secured a €2.1M DEI+ grant from the Dutch Ministry of Climate and Green Growth aka Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development, which will help fund this groundbreaking project. Our journey from lab tests to a near-complete demo plant in under three years reflects Paebbl’s commitment to moving fast and delivering real solutions for sustainable future. This journey would be impossible without a very committed & diverse team and community of partners. A huge thanks to our partners SPIE, Schneider Electric, and Vicoma for enabling us to deliver this project in less than half the typical timeline for builds of this scale. An additional major thank you to our built environment value chain of Holcim, Aurum Impact & GOLDBECK, as well as Climate Pledge Fund, with whom we are aligning interests for a win-win decarbonisation of this hard to abate industry. If you are at Slush this year, make sure to reach out to Andreas Saari, Marta Sjögren, or Stefan Tonnon to learn about how you can be part of our growing community. And if you are taking a photo at the #photowall, note that it is powered by Paebbl's carbon-storing material. #ClimateTech #CarbonStorage #SustainableConstruction #Paebbl #slush2024 #builtenvironment

Come hear our co-founder Andreas Saari and Holcim MAQER Ventures’ Jason Mühleck talk about partnering to decarbonise the built environment. 🤩🙌💯
We'll be talking at Slush about how to scale up hard tech businesses with Jason Mühleck from Holcim MAQER Ventures! We will dive into financing FOAK plants, how offtake agreements help both technology scaleups and the large customers in the buyer seat, and how to make good ones. Impact Stage on Thursday at 15:30.

Carbon-storing concrete out in the wild! At this year's Slush you will be able to find some 1,8 meter tall Slush letters made with Paebbl -based carbon-storing concrete as the background for the main photo wall! These letters are only coated with our concrete and are not made of it through and through; otherwise each letter would weigh close to a ton and we could not have installed them here. Huge thanks to Ana Luisa Vaz Frederic Ljung for making this possible!

Our Co-Founder & Co-CEO Andreas will be representing Paebbl on stage at Slush with Holcim Holcim MAQER Ventures on Thursday. Tune in for a deep-dive into scaling up hard tech companies through offtake agreements!

Envoy at Techleap.nl, co-founder StartupFestEurope| Building innovation&tech ecosystems| Digital strategy
I don’t visit too many companies as there simply are too many cool tech ventures to meet and need to focus on Techleap. But every now and then I make an exception, like Protix Nearfield Instruments Battolyser Systems Monumental to get interesting insights into scaling deeptech. And last week I visited a truly European deeptech impact company Paebbl based in founded across Stockholm, Helsinki and Rotterdam. Its Rotterdam factory is impressive in size, housing a relative modest installation, clearly anticipating exponential growth, following a 20m+ seriesA investment. Paebbl captures CO2, which it mineralizes and turns into building material (concrete and cement), solving a massive climate problem with innovative technology. On hearing this proposition, I assumed that Paebbl was one of many deeptech impact startups seeking a problem for their unique solution. But I was wrong. Paebbl started with a market problem, identifying a clear demand, scoping the addressable market, determining the business potential and business model before identifying and developing the technology and choosing the best location to build a pilot plant. The technology had been developed over 15yrs by Pol Knops before, while Paebble pulled it all together into a high growth business. Then they designed and developed a prototype, hired seasoned engineers, on boarded industrial partners and iterated the design to go from batch to continuous production. The speed and agility of this development process is typical for software but pretty rare in hardware businesses. The founders were also very keen to produce a competitive product that could be profitable from day 1. I share this because there are some important insights for many deep tech companies: ✔️Start with a highly complementary and diverse team, ✔️identify a market problem, the demand and target customers first, ✔️then find a suitable technology and iterate fast to develop a solution that solves the problem, is scalable and makes business sense, ✔️choose a location most suitable for your company, ✔️hire the best people and engage industry partners early on. Congratulations Paebbl! Will closely follow your progress.
Last week we were honoured to have a visit from Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau at our site in Rotterdam where we are building the first demonstration scale plant for continuous CO2 mineralisation. This visit highlighted the extraordinary lengths to which our team and our partners SPIE Vicoma Schneider Electric are going to scale up real climate solutions in record time. Also a special thanks to Lars Crama and Up!Rotterdam for helping facilitate everything around this special day. Stay tuned for more CO2 being turned into construction materials!

Dubbele winst dus.
