Updates on the CBAM regulation starting from January 2025 The European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is entering a pivotal phase in the coming weeks, introducing significant regulatory updates that will impact manufacturing companies of carbon-intensive goods. Starting January 1st, 2025, manufacturing companies will only be able to export their products into the European Union if they are able to provide the embedded emissions of CBAM goods calculated according to CBAM rules. It's official! EU extends the deadline for EUDR compliance. The European Parliament has already voted in favor of postponing the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115. The new compliance deadline is December 30, 2025 for large and medium-sized companies, and June 30, 2026 for small and micro enterprises, providing an additional 12 months for preparation. Key points approved: · Countryrisk classification and reporting system to be available by June 30, 2025. · A general review of the Regulation is foreseen in June 2028, during which additional measures to simplify and reduce the administrative burden for the companies that have to apply it will be analyzed. It should not be forgotten that the agreed text must also be approved by the Council and published in the EU Official Journal before the end of 2024. It was an incredible opportunity to engage directly with policymakers and industry experts shaping the future of sustainability in our sector.   The Brand & Retail Forum provided a platform for open and honest discussions about what’s working, what needs to evolve, and how we can drive meaningful change together. Key insights from the event included: - Collaboration is key. Aligning brands, retailers, manufacturers, and policymakers is essential to overcoming sustainability challenges and meeting evolving regulations. - Clear and harmonized regulations matter. Unified frameworks create a level playing field and drive progress across the industry. - Proactive education and action are critical. Bridging knowledge gaps and adopting a forward-thinking approach will help build resilient, sustainable supply chains.   The highlight of the experience was joining the Immersive EU Experience at the European Parliament—a unique chance to witness policy dialogue in action and deepen our understanding of the legislative process shaping sustainability regulations.
