On the second day of the 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰, we kicked off with a perfectly hosted visit to Sonplas GmbH, a manufacturer of battery material production machinery and hydrogen technology test benches, for example. Many thanks to Florian Klimmer for organizing and Luca Schmerbeck for his inspiring presentation. Besides this, we received a vision of European battery production and why it has not been successful, hosted by Marc Worner from OMRON Group. Day 1 of the 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 has been a great success. After inspiring presentations from TH Nürnberg and a visit to their fundamental research labs we had a joint lunch. In the afternoon MAN Truck & Bus SE e-motor and battery factory showed us their vision for the future in battery electric drivetrain and hydrogen based propulsion. A very interesting discussion followed after which we were presented with the latest MAN battery powered and hydrogen powered trucks. Many thanks to Dirk Weberskirch from MAN, Dr. Frank Opferkuch from TH Nürnberg, and Timur Isayenko. Looking forward to the network dinner tonight and a visit to the NürnbergMesse Christkindlesmarkt. The event focused on the critical role of digital infrastructure in transforming urban transport systems and featured inspiring contributions from esteemed guest speakers. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 Stephan Suiker, Senior Project Manager for Traffic and Transport at the Municipality of Eindhoven (Gemeente Eindhoven), shared ambitious plans to expand the network of high-quality bus lines. His presentation highlighted the importance of modernizing public transport systems to meet evolving mobility demands. Peter Kors, Senior Transport Engineer at Connexxion and Transdev, offered valuable insights into the regulatory challenges and opportunities surrounding automated public transport. He emphasized how policy frameworks significantly impact the implementation of autonomous systems. 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 A recurring theme throughout the day was the importance of the triple helix collaboration between industry, academia, and government. This synergy is vital for addressing complex challenges in digital infrastructure and mobility. A particularly engaging discussion centered on the development of test facilities for autonomous vehicles, where municipalities and private stakeholders can work together to drive innovation and implementation. The event concluded with networking opportunities, where participants could exchange ideas and strengthen collaborations. Gisteren heb ik het Mobiliteitsevent "van fossiel naar duurzame mobiliteit" in het Spoorwegmuseum te Utrecht bijgewoond. Centraal stonden de uitdagingen die de luchtvaart, maritiem, automotive en logistiek hebben rondom verduurzaming van deze industrieën. Te land, ter zee en in de lucht gaan er samen voor zorgen dat we als Nederland voorop blijven lopen. De sprekers roepen allemaal op om nu in actie te komen, zodat overheden en industrie sneller tot resultaten te komen. We moeten het samen doen! De uitdagingen zijn groot. De Heavy Duty wordt in 2030 al geconfronteerd met stevige regelgeving ten aanzien van uitstoot en emissies. De mobiliteitsindustrie is zich aan het klaarstomen om deze doelstellingen te halen om stevige boetes te voorkomen. Echter, dat betekent dat er ook aan de laadinfrastructuur zijde nog heel veel moet gebeuren. Dit is onlosmakelijk aan elkaar verbonden. Er zijn dringend laadpleinen nodig en bestaande infrastructuur moet op effectieve wijze worden ingericht om in de pas te gaan lopen met de "bouwers" van deze heavy duty. De oproep werd gedaan om deze vooral in het begin te concentreren langs de belangrijkste corridors van vrachtvervoer van de mainports van Nederland naar het Europese achterland. Uiteindelijk is het doel om deze vervoersstroom op een schone manier door Nederland te laten rijden. Nederland vervult een belangrijke rol in deze keten. 30% van de heavy trucks die in Europa rijden worden immers in Nederland gemaakt. Logistiek is Nederland nummer 2 in Europa. Met beide activiteiten zijn heel veel banen gemoeid. Nederland is al nummer 1 in Europa als het gaat om laadinfrastructuur voor elektrische personen auto's, maar we lopen nog ver achter als het het heavy duty transport betreft. Afgelopen weken in gesprek gegaan met BOVAG en RAI Vereniging over de automotive industrie. De ontwikkelingen bij de mobiliteitssectoren zijn groot, onder druk van geopolitiek en door de energietransitie. Interessante inzichten verkregen hoe de sector daarmee omgaat, van OEM (de grote fabrikanten) tot het MKB in de verkoop en de lease. De hele keten wordt geraakt en toont de veranderkracht die nodig is om de uitdagingen aan te gaan.
