RE-PEAT
Civiele en sociale organisaties
We are pushing for a peatland paradigm shift through collaboration, education and a process of reimagining.
Over ons
RE-PEAT is a youth-led organisation that is working on realising a peatland paradigm shift. We work in three main directions to achieve this: awareness raising in the general public, advocating for peatlands on a political level and bringing together various actors, groups & individuals to create peatland conversations. We believe that this peatland paradigm shift can be brought about through education, collaboration and a process of (re)imagining. To see our work check our website, send us an email: info@re-peat.earth or connect with us on our other social media platforms!

It's #WorldSoilDay
Research Scientist & Senior Lecturer at UCD; Director of International Masters in Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy
Happy #WorldSoilDay! What have #Peatsoils ever done for us? Irish peat soils store c. 2216 Million tonnes of carbon (2/3 of the national soil carbon stock!); keeping this store wet and in the ground is critical to help Ireland meet its targest to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions; And peat soils do so much more...check the #PeatHubIreland factsheet for more! https://lnkd.in/esiFy7Es

Sign this petition to help a peat-free grower!
Biological grower Houtum might be forced to close business You can help them! You might have heard about the potting soil from Biokultura, a frontrunner brand in sustainable substrates. An angry neighbour attacked its sister business, the grower Houtum, because he disliked customer traffic. The municipality Gemeente Utrechtse Heuvelrug threatens to place regulations on the grower, making it virtually impossible for them to continue their business. Do you want to help them? You can sign this online petition, which has almost 6000 signatures by now: https://lnkd.in/ehFdrNDZ If you want more background info, you can see a slide deck they put together to explain their case. https://lnkd.in/epQQwmpV #peatfree #gardening #sustainability

Take a look at the COP29 Virtual Peatland Pavilion! See if you can spot our newest zine👀 (hint: it's on the 5th floor)
Consultant at UN Environment Programme | Global Peatlands Initiative | Environmental & Civil Engineer
Take a look at the incredible COP29 Virtual Peatland Pavilion (VR headset optional): https://bit.ly/COP29VPP 🌎 🤖 🌱 To raise awareness of the importance of peatlands during #COP29, the IUCN UK Peatland Programme, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme-led Global Peatlands Initiative, has released the latest update to the Virtual Peatland Pavilion. Sitting in a landscape inspired by the architecture of Baku in Azerbaijan, where COP29 is being held, this huge virtual building is modelled on the leaves of peat-forming Sphagnum moss. Step inside and discover #peatland resources from around the world, including artwork, videos, photo stories, podcasts and much more. As a giant dragonfly zooms over your head to tell the story of peat and carbon, explore hotspots on a virtual globe of peatlands from Africa to Peru. Restoring and protecting peatlands is a vital nature-based solution to the climate crisis and we hope this incredible resource will educate and inspire the next generation of peatland champions. A huge thank you to Richard Lindsay, the architect behind this incredible virtual world!!

SHOUT OUT voor mooie meet ups in Amsterdam holding space for ENVIRONMENTAL GRIEF & November 30-December 1 and December 7-8. Gehost door RE-PEAT https://lnkd.in/emS8vfEu Peatlands are bodies of decay that have been subjected to extractivist-colonialist violence. Grieving the loss of their liveliness and how that impacts us and generations to come will open up space for all kinds of grief that might be present with us, from socio-political to environmental and personal. By moving through and tending to our grievances, we can reconnect to what we love, act in favor of it and create empowered communities. The series will be hosted by RE-PEAT members Frankie Turk, Lara-Lane Plambeck and Holly Bartley. We’d love to see you there! Attendance is free; just reserve your spot through this link #rouw #landschapspijn #solacetalgia #grief #peatlands #earth #event #amsterdam

Last week many of RE-PEAT members took part in an ULEX Training on Training and Narrative in Eroles, Catalonia! 🌍 This training provided us with invaluable tools and insights to deepen our understanding of how narratives shape movements and empower change. It was an incredible opportunity to grow our capacity to communicate and engage around the urgent need for peatland protection. It was also an fantastic occasion to connect with our team and strengthen out peaty bonds. 💚 We look forward to sharing what we learn and applying these lessons in our ongoing work advocating for Peatland Justice!
