RGF Staffing Belgium has won the Trends Impact Award for the most sustainable company in the ‘Diversity & Inclusion’ category for Large Companies. It is a special appreciation for the RGF Connect project HEAR2WORK. This program is about guiding candidates with a hearing impairment into employment. As Michael reached retirement age, he realized sitting at home wasn’t his thing. “Sure, I had hobbies and interests. But I felt like I wasn’t needed anymore, in a sense. So I started looking for a new job, which was very frustrating at times. I am still fit, ready to work and I feel young. Yet, most companies don’t even give me a chance when they read my resume and notice my age.” This perception is driven by prejudices. It is assumed that seniors aren’t productive enough. But perhaps the biggest bias that seniors face, is that they aren’t tech-savvy enough. Yet, the opposite is true. In his first three months as a consultant for Unique Seniors, his new employer, Michael spoke to over eight hundred candidates, all seniors. “All of them were able to easily find us via online services. For most of them, the basic use of computers or smartphones isn’t a problem at all. Of course, seniors need some time and support to start in a new role and get used to new programs. But don’t we all?” RGF Connect - Unique Seniors helps seniors across Germany – including retirees – to overcome prejudices and rejoin the labor market. Exactly two years ago, the CSI Connect program was launched in Jacksonville, Florida (USA), to empower underrepresented students and individuals to enter the field of technology. Before being given the opportunity to be mentored by CSI Connect through high school and then choosing an IT-focused major in college, students John, Tina and Kameron from Andrew Jackson High School (AJHS) in Jacksonville experienced barriers that made it difficult for them to develop a professional interest in technology. According to the students, CSI Connect – part of RGF Connect – is life-changing! “My family is proud of my accomplishments and is supportive of me continuing my studies,” says John. “I am very grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given,” Tina adds. “I get a lot of positive feedback when participating in the tech lab program, and I am encouraged to continue learning,” Kameron smiles.
