🌱 World Soil Day 🌱 Today, we celebrate the foundation of all agriculture : the soil, our very first farming tool! Did you know that soil didn’t always exist? Its formation is a fascinating journey: 🌋 It began with magma, which cooled to form rocks. 🌊 Over time, these rocks weathered, eroded, and accumulated as sediments. 🌱 Finally, when life took root, these sediments transformed into the nutrient-rich treasure we now know as soil—anchored by the Argilo-Humic complex. Soil today is a delicate balance between the lithosphere (rock) and organic life. This raises an important question: Are fertilizers impacting this vital soil life? Here’s what our research reveals: 📊 pH matters : Be cautious with acidifying products, as they affect microorganisms. 🍂 Organic matter is essential : Add organic inputs and use cover crops to nourish soil life. ⚖️ Balance nutrients: Excess nutrients can disrupt soil life in the short term. ⚠️ Toxic elements accumulation: Substances like heavy metal as copper can harm microbial populations at a certain accumulation level. That said, mineral fertilizers have not shown negative effects on soil life in our trials. In fact, during a recent soil investigation, we found an abundance of earthworms throughout all soil layers! From our factory tour to insightful stops at the ASBL "CARAH": Centre pour l'Agronomie et l'Agro-Industrie de la Province de Hainaut, CRA-W Centre wallon de Recherches agronomiques , and a visit to our neighbors Jorion Philip-Seeds with Maxime Colinet, it was a day of passion and innovation.
