An urgent call for airlines for plastic reduction #GarudaIndonesia #AirAsia #AmericanAirlines #SingaporeAirlines #TurkishAirlines
𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝘇𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗶𝗷𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲: 𝗡𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. As COP29 Azerbaijan wraps up in Baku, attendees are returning home, reflecting on the important discussions around climate change and the urgent need for action. Now, as delegates board their flights, it's a good moment for the aviation industry to reflect on its own environmental footprint—specifically regarding single-use plastics (SUPP) in airline cabins. In the run-up to the #UNEP meetings the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, offering a detailed look at the challenges and solutions for reducing SUPP in aviation. Airlines face increasing pressure to reduce waste and improve sustainability, limited alternatives available often hinder progress. The next UNEP meeting is scheduled to take place in #Busan on December 1, 2024 SUPP have long been used in aviation due to their strength, lightness, and ability to meet safety regulations. However, as the world pushes for cleaner solutions, the environmental impact of plastic waste cannot be ignored any longer. The need for more sustainable alternatives is clear. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 – 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 I insert an image of cutlery made of Solinatra, specially designed for airlines: fully natural, biodegradable materials that comply with all regulations, including food contact standards, and are suitable for composting or anaerobic digestion with biowaste. These materials can support a circular economy by replacing harmful plastic whilst 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 passengers expect. With the COP29 discussions fresh in their minds, airline decision-makers have the opportunity to implement real change. By embracing alternatives that reduce plastic use, airlines can play a crucial role in minimizing environmental impact, aligning with global sustainability efforts, and responding to consumer demand for greener travel options. The time to act is now. Let’s turn to real, lasting change in the airline industry. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘄: 𝗔 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗢𝗣𝟮𝟵 As we look ahead to the necessary material transition the world faces, it's encouraging to see important initiatives being taken, such as the call from the Minister Sophie Hermans of the Dutch Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei (Ministry of Climate and Green Growth) at the COP29 Azerbaijan climate summit in Baku. Minister Hermans is inviting countries to join an international initiative to 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝘀. The Netherlands took the lead on this during last year’s climate summit COP28 UAE in Dubai, and this year, the momentum continues. It's a crucial signal that the global transition to more sustainable solutions must be driven not only by technological innovation but also by clear policy measures. In line with this call to phase out fossil fuel subsidies, there is a critical task for all of us: creating a level playing field for new, sustainable materials that can replace the harmful effects of fossil plastics. This is where innovative companies like Solinatra play a pivotal role. Offering fully natural and sustainable material that can contribute to solving the plastic problem: material that offers the same benefits and consumer experience as plastics, and is not only biobased and compostable but also biodegrades leaving no microplastics or harmful substances behind in the environment. The transition from fossil, non-biodegradable plastics to sustainable alternatives is not only possible but essential. #Biobased #biodegradable materials replacing plastic reduce environmental damage, while also helping to achieve #climategoals by drastically lowering CO2 emissions during production. What we need is for these alternatives to be able to compete fairly with the established plastic industry, and that can happen if measures are taken to end measures favoring polluting plastics, discourage fossil fuel use and make the true costs of environmental impact visible. Minister Hermans' call to engage the market more in climate financing is, therefore, a positive step toward realizing a #circular economy and the transition to sustainable materials. As she herself pointed out, every challenge brings opportunity. The world is at a crossroads, and we cannot make this transition by waiting for political changes alone. The time to act is now, and these changes can no longer be delayed. Let’s all join forces and work towards a future where sustainable, biobased & biodegradable materials become the norm, and we leave fossil plastics behind once and for all. #Solinatra #SustainableFuture #ClimateAction #PlasticFree #Innovation #GreenTransition #SustainableMaterials #CircularEconomy

I love this! Zero plastic. 100% biodegradable. Are you like me, with a cutlery draw full of reusable cutlery for picnics etc? Alas, this will be straight in the compost bin; as soon as it's contaminated - water, sweat etc - it starts to break down. Made from agricultural waste the material is suited to plastic injection moulding. Nice knowing you eco-knife, fork, and spoon... 🌿 #sustainability #compostable #innovation #quality #naturalwaste Solinatra
