  • 𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗴: 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗷𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗼𝗼𝗿 Care4BrittleBones Foundation 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 -> 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗮𝗿, Zaterdag 5 Oktober 2024. IN AMSTERDAM: 1. Alle schilderijen in 2 autos laden die wij alvast hebben georganiseerd. Anke heeft elke schilderij ingepakt en gekenmerkt. Dus wij zijn zeker goed voorbereid! 2. De speciaal gemaakte kast uit elkaar halen. IN WASSENAAR 3.

  • Growth plate dynamic in the Aga2 mouse model of osteogenesis imperfecta with Deborah Krakow, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Human Genetics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Thursday, 19 September 2024, 4-5 pm CET, 9 - 10 am US Central Time   This webinar will focus on cartilage growth plate abnormalities in the Aga2 mouse of osteogenesis imperfecta. Short stature is seen in all forms of osteogenesis imperfecta and height inversely correlates with severity of disease. The Aga2 mouse has a shortened proliferative zone supporting an effect on the cartilage growth plate. Single-cell RNA-Seq analysis of the femoral and tibial growth plate showed that perichondrial cells express abundant type I procollagen, and growth plate chondrocytes were found to low amounts of type I procollagen, had ER stress and dysregulation of unfolded protein response. Proliferating chondrocytes showed increased FGF and MAPK signaling. The findings begin to explain that while OI has a profound effect on bone biology, abnormalities in endochondral ossification contribute to the phenotype.   Key takeaways:  · Endochondral ossification is affected in osteogenesis imperfecta · Type I collagen in expressed throughout cartilage and influences growth plate dynamics · FGF and MAK signaling is increased   Format: Webinar of 60 minutes with presentation by Dr. Deborah Krakow followed by a facilitated discussion. Audience: Everyone interested. Joining: Please sign up through www.care4bones.org if you are affiliated to Osteogenesis Imperfecta or request the link from one of the moderators or Dagmar Mekking About the speaker: As a clinician scientist, Deborah Krakow cares for and treats patient with osteogenesis imperfecta. Her laboratory has spent the last 20 years studying the genetic and biochemical basis of osteogenesis imperfecta, including employing mouse models to develop a deeper appreciation of the complex biology that underlies OI. Additionally, she is involved in caring for patients with skeletal dysplasia and exploring the genetic basis of these disorders particularly those that occur in the prenatal period. She is a member of the medical advisory board of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation and Little People of America. • Genetic Landscape of Osteogenesis Imperfecta in India and Experience with Fetal MSCs intravenous and intraosseous delivery in children with severe OI Speaker: Vrisha Madhuri The webinar will focus on the outcome of two projects on Osteogenesis Imperfecta carried out at Christian Medical College Vellore. The first one is the outcome of a large genetic study in the Indian subcontinent. Genetic profiling of these patients with clinical and targeted exome sequencing and the phenotype genotype correlation in this group will be presented. The second project is on assessing the safety and efficacy of fetal liver derived MSCs used for treatment of Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a study carried out in collaboration with Dr Ceilia Götherström team from Karolinska Instituet Sweden, and funded by the government agencies of the two countries. Stem cell therapy is a possible strategy to stimulate healthy osteogenesis, though results are transient unless engrafted. Intravenous MSC therapy for OI has been described in severe OI to reduce fractures and improve growth. However, lung filtration is a major hindrance when delivered postnatally, leading to the loss of administered cells. The cases presented use an additional intraosseous delivery of cells to have a more effective delivery of cells to the target organs directly. Key take aways:  1) Learn about the genetic landscape of OI in India. 2) The recessively transmitted gene variants and their phenotypes in this population are  discussed. 3) Learn about the Safety and efficacy of the fetal MSCs delivered by intravenous and intraosseous route for patients with severe OI Vrisha Madhuri is the former professor and head of Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit at Christian Medical College Vellore and is currently senior consultant at Amara Hospital Tirupati India. She served as an adjunct scientist at the Centre for Stem Cell Research, a unit of inStem Bengaluru at CMC Campus in Vellore for 15 years and was PI in several national and internationally funded basic science and translational project related to stem cell therapy and tissue engineering. She is the past president of Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of India and a member of International Paediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank. She is a member of the International Clinical Council on Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva ( a rare genetic disorder of bone formation)and chair of its communication committee. She has given numerous national and international lectures and orations and published more than 100 research papers in peer reviewed journals. She has been treating OI patient for more than 25 years and actively involved in OI research and OI community. Yesterday, completely unexpectedly our dear friend Rick Brink has passed away. He has worked as our ambassador in Care4BrittleBones and later on as CARE4BONES Network leader and has been an advisor and active supporter of our foundation since day 1. He was an entrepreneur and a change maker in politics. He was always there for us with advice, with ideas, with his good humor and is relentless optimism. He has been an iconic trailblazer for a society in which everyone can participate. Especially children with special needs.

  • "Brittle but not broken" I met a guy named Sai With a beautiful contagious smile Born in Siliguri to be a dancer But his bones were made of glass He broke his legs and his dreams And all turned dark in isolation and despair Not been understood By the community and neighbourhood But the light came through the suffering By the meaning added to others around him Bringing happiness and a contagious smile Because it´s all a matter of acceptance Resilience is to fall and get up again Brittle but not broken From his wheelchair adding colour to the world With one finger on the mouse He teaches us never to compare to others Because we are our unique self Never to feel too small to dream big And make those dreams come true And to practice gratitude Because the smile you give Comes back to you https://lnkd.in/eGdcij7f Check the whole video with Sai Kaustuv Dashgupta #OsteogenesisImperfecta; #Resilience

  • May 6th is "Wishbone Day" worldwide, a day that aims to raise awareness of Osteogenesis Imperfecta worldwide. With my personal 'coming out' and story, I want to contribute to this. Because it is extremely important that sufficient research funding is allocated for rare diseases to ensure that patients worldwide receive the right treatment, that medication and methods are developed, and that there is enough attention for the emotional side of this disease. But also because people with disabilities deserve more than pity and I hope that awareness leads to more respect and inclusion. #Together4OI ; #Wishboneday2024
