🚗🔋 Curious how green your favorite car brands really are? Here's the breakdown of European automakers' revenue from sustainable activities: BMW Group 15.2% Mercedes-Benz AG 14% Porsche AG 12.9% Volkswagen 11.4% Renault Group 10.5% Stellantis 8.8% Daimler Truck AG 0.9% Ferrari 0% Volvo Group 0% These percentage numbers represent the shares of companies' revenues aligned with EU Taxonomy - a regulatory framework that recently came into force, setting rigorous standards for assessing and categorizing environmentally sustainable economic activities. 📊 Volvo stands out with zero alignment despite its EV sales. In 2023, Vestas derived from environmentally sustainable activities: 🌱 99% of revenues 💰 97% of capex 💼 92% of opex These impressive results place Vestas at the forefront of renewable energy companies. 🔹 The bulk of Vestas's business involves the manufacturing of wind turbines, along with their procurement and installation, which generated 76% of total revenues in 2023, down from 79% in 2022. The remaining revenues largely come from associated services for installed turbines, falling under the EU Taxonomy category of "electricity generation from wind power," which accounted for 23% in 2023, up from 20% in 2022. Both of these segments are fully aligned with EU Taxonomy requirements. 🔹 Similiarly, the alignment of the company’s capex and operating expenses is exceptionally strong, as most of its spending is dedicated to the manufacturing and servicing of wind turbines. The reported figures also indicate Vestas' growing emphasis on services, with the portion related to "electricity generation" in both capex and opex increasing from 11% in 2022 to 16% in 2023, and from 36% to 47%, respectively. N.B. A small fly in the ointment is a likely error in Vestas' classification of 'Electricity generation from wind power' across all its disclosures in 2022 and 2023. This contradicts the EU Taxonomy accounting rules, in our view, and the approach taken by most of its peers #EnvironmentalCompliance #EUtaxonomy #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability
