𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗦𝗚𝗠 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗮 🌏 🏝️ TAUW, Nexus3 Foundation, University of Mataram and partner Amman Mineral have investigated mercury contamination at Indonesian Artisanal Small Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) sites. 🌍 Reflections on the NICOLE 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗯𝗮𝗼 🏭   Last week, I had the privilege of attending the NICOLE Fall Workshop in Bilbao, a city renowned for its own transformation—from an industrial center to a cultural and economic hub. This evolution resonated deeply with the workshop’s theme: 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.   The workshop explored the keys to success in transforming legacy sites, from business models that can be applied, exploring stakeholder engagement is possibilities, through project risk management and using innovative approaches to increase circularity in these redevelopments.   💡 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 I was happy to have the opportunity to present a case study on a mercury-contaminated site by my colleagues of TAUW France, showcasing the application of 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲-𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀. The methodology addresses the priorities of project holders—whether planning, budgeting, safety, environmental protection, or operational continuity. By fostering collaboration between stakeholders, the approach provides a comprehensive understanding of risks, enabling proactive mitigation measures. It also ensures the clear allocation of responsibilities, aligning all parties and contributing to a successful project outcome.   My colleague, Andrea from TAUW Iberia, presented an insightful poster on 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗮𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 and sustainable remediation, emphasizing the importance of nature-based solutions in creating impactful and sustainable remediation projects.   🔗 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 One of the NICOLE Network’s greatest strengths is fostering connections across disciplines and roles—bringing together service providers, industry leaders, consultants, and academics. These connections are crucial to driving innovation and progress.   Connections also play a critical role in increasing circularity ♻️ in legacy site projects. Throughout the workshop, inspiring presentations showcased how collaborative approaches and broad stakeholder engagement can integrate sustainability into project design and execution, ensuring better outcomes for communities and the environment.   👏 Thanking the Hosts A big thank you to IDOM Consulting, Engineering, Architecture for hosting us in Bilbao.
