Sustainable trade for local benefit
Over ons
The mission of TRAIDE is to promote the transition from aid to trade in developing countries and emerging economies. TRAIDE aims to facilitate this transition by: - identifying, developing and stimulating sustainable and responsible trade, investment and knowledge exchange between the European Union and emerging economies - developing and promoting local entrepreneurship TRAIDE envisions a globalized trade system that contributes to employment, decent wages and environmentally sound business practices in emerging markets. The foundation aims to achieve this by supporting sustainable trade and investment that contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on decent work and economic growth, living cities and communities, and gender equality (SDG 8, 11 and 5). In the long run, TRAIDE aims to support Dutch companies in all emerging economies where it can build bridges with the local private sector and the Dutch and European economies. The foundation actively promotes knowledge exchange between its projects and teams in Africa and Asia and maintains a strong network in the Netherlands, both with companies, financial institutions, government and research organisations. This strong network will provide the local teams with a sufficient flow of new companies and organisations, increasing the amount of trade and private sector investment. Currently, TRAIDE has local offices in Rwanda and Ethiopia and aims to expand to other emerging economies. These programs in Africa are supported by the Embassies of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Addis Ababa and Kigali. Within 15 years, TRAIDE foresees that local partnerships have been built in at least ten countries. The foundation aims to achieve this through the implementation of different programmes and projects embedded in the local context. TRAIDE takes up a collaborative approach and wants to join forces with local implementing organisations.

Yesterday we celebrated the kick-off of the Eza Potato+ Impact Cluster project in Musanze! The Kinyarwanda word Eza translates to “growth” in English, which is at the project's core as we aim to drive growth in Rwanda’s potato sector, particularly in seed multiplication and enhancing farmer livelihoods. Eza Potato+ is a collaboration between Hollanda FairFoods, Holland Greentech, VDS-Acampo, AGRISEED LTD, TRAIDE Foundation, and Simbuka. Together, we are working to strengthen the potato value chain by Providing quality (Dutch variety) seeds and Supporting farmers with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) through a series of trainings, covering topics like crop protection and disease control and management, seed and soil management, and building digital solutions to unlock access to finance. During the event, we discussed key themes including the role of collaboration in a sector with many important stakeholders, both public and private, and the importance of learning from past initiatives, such as the SDGP project. The importance of aligning activities with government initiatives and goals towards food security was also highlighted. These lessons all show the value of open communication and partnerships in creating impact. TRAIDE is on a mission to support over 15,000 Rwandan pineapple farmers, tackling post-harvest losses through an innovative, zero-waste solution. We’re entering an exciting phase, seeking finance and investment to turn this impact-driven initiative into a reality. We invite donors and investors to join us in scaling a sustainable solution that: 🔸 Adds value by drying organic pineapple for export to Europe 🔸 Transforms waste into organic fertilizer using Black Soldier Flies (BSF), advancing sustainable agriculture and reducing waste This initiative not only boosts farmer incomes but also drives job creation, export growth, environmental sustainability, and community development. We’re ready to move forward, having already engaged local and international partners to refine this initiative and create a business model around it, now, we’re looking for donors and development partners to help take this initiative from pilot to scale. Interested in funding this impactful initiative? Let’s connect. ➡️ Reach out to our Country Director, Diwy Tomassen, at diwy.tomassen@traide.org #SustainableDevelopment #Agriculture #DonorFunding #Rwanda #ImpactInvesting
