This week, as part of the Eindhoven University of Technology Women and Girls in Science Week, Season 3 of Driven by Challenges profiles four of TU/e’s inspiring women who are tackling some of society’s most difficult challenges. Episode 2 features former TU/e student team member Maartje Verhoek, who credits her experience with team STORM with (battery) powering her journey to COO of Eleo– a former student team spin-off that designs and manufactures battery packs for off-highway electrical vehicles. TU/e innovation Space is so proud to have witnessed Maartje’s journey from dream, to demo, and as she continues to make meaningful impact. We can’t wait to see where this journey goes! Don’t miss all six episodes of Driven by Challenges and discover how TU/e students are engineering the future. https://lnkd.in/eGjVx7bZ #womenandgirlsinscienceweek #studentteams #innovation #fromdreamtodemotoimpact

Really interesting developments in University of Newcastle. Love to follow up and also collaborate for developing entrepreneurial engineers of the future.
Is using AI tools like LLMs turning us into intellectual zombies—or making us more #creative and #curious? I keep hearing that we (including our students) will all stop thinking for ourselves if AI is doing the heavy lifting. But from my experience, it’s been the opposite: LLMs have supercharged my creativity and ignited my curiosity, not to mention my #productivity. The more I explore with AI, the more questions I ask and the deeper I dig into topics I’d never have touched otherwise. And the more I seem to be able to connect the dots looking forward (not backward). Maybe this is the #hallucinatory power of the LLMs. Yes, there’s a real risk of ‘laziness’ if we rely on AI to do the thinking for us. But haven’t we always faced that risk with any new tech; be it calculators, spell-check, or search engines? Each time, the real innovators use these tools to go further and faster, while focusing on the bigger picture problems that only humans can tackle. But sometimes, I do feel that the LLMs are more than just a tool. So, does using AI impede learning, or does it free us up for more creative, innovative, and strategic thinking? This is why, in 2025, we are taking a bold step forward at the University of Newcastle to re-design (and test!) an entire #InnovationandEntrepreneurship major using our (new) Human-Centric AI-First Pedagogical Framework #HCAIpF. Our goal? To harness the power of GenAI to enable and empower our students to be more #entrepreneurial, without losing the very essence of what it means to be #human. We believe the right #design approach doesn’t replace human thinking. Hopefully, we will find a way that elevates it. We don’t claim to have all the answers, far from it. This journey of integrating GenAI into education is as much about learning as it is about designing. We’re exploring uncharted territory, and we know there will be challenges along the way. But we’re committed to experimenting, iterating, and staying curious. If this resonates with you, or if you’re exploring similar ideas, we’d love to hear your thoughts, experiences, or even join forces. Let’s co-create a future where AI doesn’t just assist us, but empowers us and our students to think bigger, dig deeper, and remain profoundly human. TU/e innovation night: Dream Big, Act Together What do an autonomous rover, sustainable rockets, light objects for social impact and a firefighting drone have in common? They are the creations of tomorrow's innovators - engineers of the future, ready to contribute to solving society's greatest challenges. These creations are not the work of a single genius, but collaborative brainpower, addressing real-world problems where a singular solution is insufficient. At TU/e innovation night, bright minds and the spirit of entrepreneurship came together, in the inspirational environment of TU/e innovation Space students, alumni and experts connected to reimagine a possible future. TU/e Space Industry Student Team reaches for the stars At a university with no dedicated space program, Team VOID—a bold new student initiative at Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) — is on the ambitious path to revolutionize the space industry. Last Friday the team revealed its first milestone; a mini rocket prototype called Tapeti, a vital step toward their ultimate goal of building reusable rockets. @IO+, published an interesting story about the team and its plans for the future: https://lnkd.in/ePPcEWsy #spaceindustry, #sustainability, #studentteam, #transformation

Budget cuts in higher education affect not only our universities but also the future of society itself. Funding cuts undermine facilities like the TU/e innovation Space, where the engineers of the future learn and develop skills to become leaders, inventors, and problem solvers. Investing in higher education is investing in the future; education for innovation that solves challenges the world is facing drives economic growth, and improves society now and in decades to come. We are committed to a future built on knowledge, creativity, and resilience. Today, we planned to join the protest in Utrecht to stand against budget cuts in higher education and student penalties. Unfortunately, the protest was cancelled, so taking a picture was all we could do. #doehetniet #stopbezuinigingenophethogeronderwijs
