This requires the ability to envision various project possibilities: starting with a broad, ambitious vision and then refining it to the most realistic version. By comparing reality to this vision, we can work towards it as much as possible, employing #strategic approaches along the way.’’ One of his projects, #Factory2030, brings #data and #manufacturing together. “Data analytics will show us how we can use data in the factory to improve processes or products, also commonly known as Industry 4.0” he explains. This project highlights the synergy between Technology & Development and the factory, showcasing our innovative approach to problem-solving.

Since two laser interferometers observed the first #gravitational wave detection on Earth in 2015, dozens more have been observed. This provides a revolutionary method to gain insight on black holes colliding and the early universe. The Einstein Telescope (ET), a future underground observatory, aims to overcome the limitations of current observatories and enable groundbreaking discoveries. Realising the ET involves several challenges, such as achieving vibration-free cooling, developing advanced sensors, and constructing the world’s largest ultra-high #vacuum (UHV) system. We are dedicated to contribute our expertise in the technical challenge of creating the world’s largest UHV system, consisting of over 120 km of tubes, and ensure the success of this ambitious project. Our CEO, Geert Jakobs, actively represents VDL Groep on the ET Valorisation Advisory Board, driving #innovation and accelerating the #development of new #technologies for the ET. The universe is an unimaginably vast and mysterious place, full of planets, stars, and galaxies we've yet to discover. How can we explore these hidden worlds and potentially uncover extraterrestrial life? The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) is designed to unravel these cosmic mysteries and answer profound questions like whether life is possible on other planets. Our colleagues at VDL ETG Projects B.V. played an instrumental role in this initiative, developing and manufacturing 798 segments that form the backbone of the ELT's impressive 39-meter diameter mirror. The #semiconductor sector is one of the most competitive and demanding industries, facing major challenges with increasingly stringent cleanliness requirements. By investigating how contaminants occur, move, and are deposited, we are finding ways to prevent them from reaching critical locations. In our GLOW test rig, we make #particle flows visible by blowing smoke-like particles through or past a product using a fan. A laser then illuminates these particles, allowing us to analyse and calculate the flow with cameras. This data helps us test how moving parts affect the flow, enabling us to improve and optimise our #designs for greater efficiency.  #hightech

Contamination control in vacuum conditions is one of our key innovation drivers. That’s why our colleague Paul delved into the challenges of maintaining ultra-clean vacuum conditions in wafer handling and electron beam equipment during the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (IUVSTA) workshop on ultra-clean vacuum. Together with a group of enthusiastic engineers, Paul explored the unique complexities of contamination control methodologies. This work would not have been possible without the help of our network in the academic world and the industry. Working in #hightech has been a deliberate choice for Project Manager Job. “At VDL ETG Technology & Development B.V., we run projects with customers in sectors such as the #semiconductor industry, where we contribute to the latest technologies that undeniably impact the world.” “I love overseeing entire projects and keeping track of progress and results. This involves a lot of switching gears, especially on the technical side. I interact with many stakeholders across VDL ETG T&D, the VDL Enabling Technologies Group (ETG) Almelo plant, the customer side, and for example, logistics and purchasing. It’s great to feel the camaraderie when you all work towards the common goal.” Job’s role involves stepping back to help the team think critically: Are we on the right track? Are we thinking in the right direction? “It’s my responsibility to monitor the team and intervene when necessary, considering project capacity, expertise, and whether anyone needs extra help.”
