Naomi Cecchini—whose had a 22-year journey with WorldSkills—served as not only an Expert in Beauty Therapy but also mother to Competitor Jasmine. Balancing the role of mother and Expert during competition preparation brought unique challenges. Surrounded by nearly 1,400 skilled young people, the WorldSkills and the World Plumbing Council celebrated 20 successful years together and committed to more collaboration going forward. "A skilled workforce is an essential element of stable economic development. #WorldSkills Champion Elizabeth Isai of Namibia 🇳🇦 knows the value of her skill is not in the medals she has won but in how she now uses it to help those around her. She uses her free time to show people how to improve the way they plan meals, how they can use up ingredients before they go bad, and how to reduce food waste. She has become actively involved in local organizations and charities that focus on food insecurity and nutrition education, by preparing nutritious meals for the residents at a local shelter. In Namibia, 18% of the population currently live below the national poverty line. Elizabeth says that learning to cook, “can empower individuals to make healthier choices, save money, and become more self-sufficient.” She’s using skill to address the larger-scale issues her country is facing.
