Voor ons vierdejaarsproject van de opleiding “Engineering: Elektrotechniek” aan de Hogeschool van Amsterdam is in opdracht van Nikhef een klok ontworpen die gebruik maakt van het White Rabbit protocol. Het White Rabbit protocol maakt het mogelijk om op sub-nanoseconden niveau tijd synchroon te laten lopen tussen meerdere systemen. Door het White Rabbit protocol is het ons gelukt om een klok te ontwerpen die met deze nauwkeurigheid de tijd kan weergeven. Hiervoor hebben wij 7 segmenten displays ontworpen om de tijd duidelijk te laten zien in een open ruimte. De tijd wordt vanuit de White Rabbit module aangeleverd, om deze informatie weer te geven zijn aansturing borden ontworpen die de informatie van de module verwerken met behulp van FPGA's. Deze FPGA's vereisen zeer nauwkeurige voedingsspanningen. Hiervoor is gebruik gemaakt van power modules van Würth Elektronik. Deze chips verzorgen de voedingsspanning op onze printplaten. Daarnaast wordt de tijd op de segmenten duidelijk weergegeven met behulp van Würth Elektronik leds.
