Head of Finance
As our Head of finance you work directly with our CFO on all financial topics and you oversee the day-to-day financial management of the organization. Key responsibilities include timely and accurate periodic financial closings, help develop your 2 team members in their roles, make sure we are compliant for tax and financial reporting and be the liaison for our service organisations in both the Netherlands and abroad when it comes to the financial and tax administration. You are there to lead our team of controllers and bookkeepers.
You are analytical, critical, and able to act as financial adviser to the CFO and the wider organization, to increase financial awareness throughout the company. In addition, you will coordinate Finance’s support in Temper’s ambitions.
You will be looked upon to proactively flag opportunities and risks with respect to the financial processes, our administration, and internal and external developments. You will drive continuous improvement with a feeling for teamwork, efficiency and quality.
This is a dynamic role and you will have to keep multiple balls in the air at the same time. Especially in a fast changing environment such as Temper, quite some demand will be placed on your flexibility and proactive mindset.
The challenge
It’s not just about looking at the numbers. Instead, the role requires you to interpret financial performance and create a reporting system to ensure the consistent delivery of data, such as monthly financial reports. You are the one that sees the big picture, and creates a strategy around little steps.
You have to set direction, vision and strategy for the department and be accountable for the delivery and execution. In this role you report directly to the CFO.
In this role you:
- Oversee financial administration, financial reporting and payroll;
- Work together with your team to increase the value of monthly financial reporting within the company;
- Write the companies annual Financial Statement, oversee the audit cycle and ensure an unqualified opinion;
- Own our finance budget and challenge investment decisions with a positive, energetic, and inclusive style;
- Lead all tax compliance efforts and liaise with our service providers;
- Are responsible for an accurate administration of the Employee Stock Appreciation Rights; and
- Implement technology solutions for financial procedures and flows throughout our platform.
Your Temper team
As head of finance you are supported by 2 amazing direct reports that are responsible for topline management and accountants payable. Both are super eager, smart and diligent. In addition you are supported by our People Ops team that will prepare every month's payroll under your supervision.
Besides the fun, hardworking and smart team members in the day-2-day administration you will work closely with our Head of Legal, Head of Data and Head of FP&A - all direct reports to the CFO - and all experts in their field.

- Financial Analysis and Reporting: The Head of Finance should have strong competencies in financial analysis and reporting, including the ability to interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support strategic decision-making. This involves proficiency in variance analysis and the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports for internal stakeholders, management, and external regulatory bodies. We believe 4 to 6 years experience at a (BIG-4) Accountancy firm as an Accountant will give you a solid basis for the required skills.
- Compliance and Risk Management: The Head of Finance plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with financial regulations, industry standards, and internal policies. Competencies in compliance and risk management involve staying updated on relevant laws and regulations, implementing internal controls and procedures to mitigate financial risks, and conducting regular audits to ensure adherence to compliance standards. Additionally, the Head of Finance should have the ability to assess and manage various financial risks, such as credit risk, market risk, and operational risk, to safeguard the organization's financial stability and reputation. It would be great if you have already some experience “on the other side of the table” and have worked 1 or 2 years in business. Preferably in the Agency sector.
- Attention to Detail: A Head of Finance must exhibit a strong attention to detail in handling financial data, transactions, and reporting. They should meticulously review financial documents, statements, and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations. By demonstrating a commitment to precision and thoroughness, you can mitigate the risk of errors and maintain the integrity of financial information within the organization.
- Effective Communication: Effective communication is a critical behavior for a Head of Finance to convey financial information, insights, and recommendations to various stakeholders, including senior management, board members, and department heads. You should be able to present complex financial concepts in a clear, concise, and understandable manner, tailoring your communication style to the audience's level of financial literacy. By fostering open and transparent communication, you can facilitate informed decision-making and build trust and credibility within the organization. Dutch is mandatory for this role.
