In our recent project with Scottish Water at Winchburgh, we demonstrated how Nereda technology can be seamlessly integrated into confined spaces without disrupting ongoing operations. Here’s how we did it: Nereda employs innovative aerobic granular sludge technology. This approach eliminates the need for large settling tanks, reducing the overall footprint by up to 75% compared to traditional systems. Additionally, it cuts energy usage by 50%, ensuring an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution. On November 5th the Nereda team from Royal HaskoningDHV was present at the Parque Novo Mundo Wastewater Treatment Plant, participating in the kick-off event that represented the beginning of the expansion works and operational improvements of this plant. Through Nereda wastewater treatment technology, it will be possible to increase the capacity of the plant from 2.5 m³/s to 6.2 m³/s, while preserving the available area. The expansion of the plant will provide service to an equivalent population of 2.4 million people. Royal HaskoningDHV thanks the Consortium called New ETE Parque Novo Mundo, formed by the companies Passarelli Engeform Enfil S/A Controle Ambiental and Consbem Construções e Comércio Ltda, for their trust in choosing Nereda technology for this project. In addition, we also thank Sabesp for choosing modern and sustainable solutions, pillars of the Nereda technology. Today, we celebrated the grand opening of the state-of-the-art Winchburgh Wastewater Treatment Works - an initiative that underscores our commitment to sustainable water management. The guests enjoyed guided tours and insightful discussions on the project. Highlights of the day included fascinating discussions led by Colin Maybury from Scottish Water and Neil Townend from Royal HaskoningDHV, emphasizing our successful collaboration and remarkable sustainability achievements. Scottish Water has invested £35 million in this low-carbon facility, now equipped with our cutting-edge Nereda® technology, reducing energy usage by up to 50% and incorporating the latest low-carbon manufacturing approaches. The site, which features a PV solar scheme for green energy generation, will support the fast-growing Winchburgh community for generations, all while protecting local environments. A heartfelt thank you to our hosts, Scottish Water, our partners, EPS Group and the vibrant Winchburgh community for making this event a success and for supporting a cleaner, greener future. 🏆It’s done it again! 🏆 The Winchburgh Wastewater Treatment Plant has been recognised as Mechanical Engineering Project of the Year at the 2024 Engineering Excellence Awards! And what perfect timing, as we prepare for the now multi award winning (!) site’s official opening next week! 👏 This very unique project leveraged our digital delivery expertise to successfully design and build the plant during the global pandemic using Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) and collaborative design through digital tools, which helped deliver quicker construction, improved quality and reduced HSE risk during an incredibly challenging design and construction environment created by the Covid-19 pandemic. Congratulations too to our client Scottish Water, their delivery partners ESD Joint Venture and technology partner Royal HaskoningDHV and their Nereda wastewater treatment technology.
