Thank you to all who celebrated ARENA's 30th anniversary with us yesterday! 💡ARENA researchers presented their research on among other EU foreign policy, post-truth and journalism, gendered wage differences, antitrust, public administration and rule of law and democratic backsliding. 🌍The panel on Nordic countries offered valuable and interesting perspectives on the past, present and future of EU and Nordic cooperation. They discussed the past 30 years of EU relations in each Nordic country, the current security situation and the implications of the recent US election. I høst inviterte den jordanske tankesmia Politics and Society Institute en rekke forskere fra Norge, for å høste erfaringer fra et annet land med et liknende demokratisk-monarkisk styresett, skriver Institutt for statsvitenskap, Universitetet i Oslo i denne saken 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKrszARY Til konferansen var representanter fra jordansk akademia invitert, i tillegg til ulike beslutningstakere i landet. Samtidig som konferansedeltakerne satte seg ned for å diskutere forutsetningene for demokrati i Jordan, begynte iranske missiler å suse over hodene på dem – som en reaksjon på Israels likvidering av lederne for Hamas og Hizbollah. – Vi fikk virkelig kjenne på kroppen hvor mye den geopolitiske situasjonen har å si for et land som Jordan, og hvor mye vanskeligere det er for Jordan, enn for Norge, å nå sine demokratiske mål, sier Louisa Boulaziz. Hun skriver doktoravhandling ved ARENA om hva som påvirker beslutningstakerne i EU-domstolen.

We are happy to announce that Pernille Rieker will be the new Centre Director at ARENA! "I have been involved in European research for a long time, and I am excited to work with many enthusiastic researchers who have expertise on the challenges facing Europe and Norway," says Pernille Rieker. Rieker will take up the post as the new Director of ARENA Centre for European Studies in January 2025. She is currently a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI). "I look forward to working with everyone at ARENA, as well as with the Faculty of Social Sciences and others involved in European issues both within and outside the University of Oslo," she continues. Rieker emphasises the need for research on Europe's challenges and the importance of disseminating this knowledge beyond academic circles. "Knowledge about Europe and the EU is more important than ever. War in Europe and increased geopolitical tensions have led to many new initiatives within the EU.
