Struggles of Unique Coding in BIM—and How to Conquer Them Raising the digitalisation level requires changes. No change comes without additional hassle and effort. Objects’ unique coding gives many possibilities but also has requirements to fulfil. 1. Creating correct values Manual or cumbersome process to encode objects in models. Solution: Create a coding script or deploy a database solution. 2. Data validation process Additional complex values to check. Software missing functionality. Solution: Create data validation rule templates and automate the checking process. 3. Maintaining data consistency and uniqueness Maintaining complex values across multiple systems used in the construction process is hard. Solution: Connect systems using automated processes or within a dashboard. 4. Late design changes Late design changes that disrupt the construction process. Solution: Introduce a rigid change process and limit the personnel allowed to implement changes. Interested? Om oss
BIM Corner is a blog mainly focused on Building Information Modeling technology. Our main goal is to spread knowledge in the field of BIM and its practical use in construction projects. We did not want to create another place where BIM is presented only in theory. We wanted our reader to be able to learn practical knowledge which can be used on a daily basis. Help us change the face of today’s construction industry and join the group of BIM Corner readers. We are convinced that this decision will be beneficial for you and your future career.

IFC might sound tricky, but it’s a clever way to organize your building project! Map it out with the Spatial Breakdown Structure, group similar items, label clearly with Classification and PredefinedType, and add Materials, Properties, and Quantities to keep track of what it’s made of, how to use it, and how much you need. Check more below!
IFC might sound complicated, but it's really just a smart way to keep your BIM project in order! Imagine giving your model a map (Spatial Breakdown Structure), sorting its pieces into neat groups, and labeling everything clearly with Classification and PredefinedType—no more "what’s this thing again?" moments. Add in Materials to know what it’s made of, Properties to describe it, and Quantities to count it all up. Boom! You've got a system that’s as organized as your grandma’s spice rack and just as essential for building success. Check my document below to learn more about fundamental concepts in IFC. P.S. Which concept would you add to this list?

Key Elements for a Successful BIM Coordination Meeting: 1. Preparation is Key: Ensure each coordination meeting is planned in advance with a clear agenda. 2. Tool Utilization: Prior to the meeting, the BIM Coordinator checks the model for clashes and correctness of parameters using automatic tools. 3. Multi-discipline Presentation: During the meeting, the BIM Coordinator presents a multi-discipline model for analysis. 4. Visual Analysis: Participants engage in visual analysis of the model, identifying and discussing potential issues. 5. Issue Resolution: The group collaboratively completes a list of issues to be solved, addressing previously detected collisions. 6. Decision Allocation: Assign identified issues to individual decision makers for resolution. What would you add to this list? For more check the article on BIM Corner (link in the comments)

Do you use Quadri in your project? I'm not sure if you're aware, but it's one of the most popular software for managing infrastructure projects in Scandinavia. Below is a brief graphical overview of the capabilities this software offers. What is one function that is most helpful/unique for you in Quadri? For me, it's the LRS (Linear Referencing System), the ability to add objects to the infrastructure network.

Tackling a complex infrastructure project without a clear plan is like navigating a maze blindfolded—it’s overwhelming and inefficient. The Spatial Breakdown Structure (SBS) provides clarity, enabling a systematic organization and understanding of every component. With the IFC 4.3 standard, engineers can effectively model and manage intricate systems, from highways to rail networks, turning complexity into a streamlined and cohesive structure. Check out my new article on BIM Corner for a deeper dive (link below).
