🌟 Exciting collaboration and #biomarker research in #ophthalmology and #neurology🌟 Our collaboration with the industrial partner Bulbitech AS within a project sponsored by the The Research Council of Norway has reached a great milestone in finding new #functional #biomarkers for #AMD, #diabeticretinopathy, #glaucoma, #cataract, #Parkinson's disease and #ataxia. This milestone is important for #early_diagnosis of these diseases before any #manifest #structural #changes are visible, which should allow us to better understand and treat these diseases. The project is led by my team of ophthalmologists: Dr. Bjørn André Helland-Hansen and Dr. Alexander Sverstad, while the team in neurology is led by Prof. Emilia Kerty: Dr. Solveig Jacobsen Dalbro and Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Elsais. Prof. Stig E Larsen and his team at the Meddoc AS: Peter Lange and Hans Fagertun, are in charge of the clinical validation of the medical device and statistics, joined by Bård Dalhøi, CSO, and Atsuko Ikeda Steinnes from Bulbitech AS. ➡️ How do we validate our medical device and our tests? This question is asked a lot, so we decided to explain it in two infographics. Since we transition to a Class IIa medical device under MDR each individual clinical parameter/biomarker measured in both healthy controls and patients include the following key statistical components: 1️⃣ Validiity 2️⃣ Reliability 3️⃣ Reproducibility 4️⃣ Stability ❗These components are important as we need to know how a biomarker can be used, which is crucial for regulatory approval and drives further clinical adoption. PhD candidates Bjørn André Helland-Hansen, Alexander Sverstad & Solveig Jacobsen Dalbro measured these values in healthy controls and patients with the following 👁️ & 🧠 diseases: 👁️ AMD, Glaucoma, Cataract & Diabetic Retinopathy 🧠 Parkinson's Disease & Ataxia 🔜 the PhD candidates will reveal their findings and publish their clinical validation data.
