The Palestinian Ministry of Health has included external aortic compression in their guidelines! And we are of course proud that they use the ExAC Trainer in the implementation!

A big shoutout to Yashar Asadzadeh, Sofia Blaxmo, Oscar Kjellberg and Vilgot Hallgren at Halmstad University who are exploring possibilities for a model of ExAC Trainer adapted to rural low-income contexts! The development of optimal fit between product and society takes far more than just ordinary rocket science! 🚀 Results will be presented in December- and we will of course give an update 😎

The ExAC project was conceived after a visit to Malawi in 2018. Witnessing how a mother lost her life due to severe postpartum haemorrhage, we devoted our time, knowledge and resources to the mission of ending unnecessary deaths and complications related to delivery. It is therefore, six years later, exciting to witness how one of our partners, Nelle Kaljouw from Reinier de Graaf ziekenhuis in Delft, Netherlands is helping to close the circle! She brought the ExAC Trainer to Malawi when she was teaching external aortic compression as a part of simulation-based emergency training in maternal healthcare. The ExAC Trainer is the first manikin in the world that allows training in this life saving technique. We are thankful to be a part of her devotion to make births safer! Two years ago, in 2022, Oslo universitetssykehus borrowed the first model of our ExAC Trainer and the first health professionals were trained in external aortic compression. Since then, they have been renting the ExAC Trainer and an increasing number of professionals have been trained . This week, after having experienced of the positive effects in treatment of postpartum haemorrhage over some time, the Woman's Clinic bought their own ExAC Trainer! With this they have the possibility to strategically train all health professionals involved in treatment of postpartum haemorrhage. This means that with time, all professionals will be able to perform external aortic compression with confidence. They will also be able to repeat the training to maintain the competence and keep the skills sharp. ExAC AS is proud to contribute to increase safety during birth and to reduce unnecessary costs at the largest hospital for delivery in Norway!! Annecdote: I had the pleasure to meet a young mother a few months ago. She had experienced postparum haemorrhage twice at Oslo University Hospital. She described the first time as chaotic and scary with all the stress associated with trauma. The second time however, gave her a totally different experience. She felt safe and the health personnel demonstrated a calm atmosphere of confidence and tranquility. The difference was external aortic compression (and yes- the two times were on either side of 2022).
