For the third year, Ship Technology Days in Ulsteinvik was a great success! 🚢 This conference delves deeper into digitalization and autonomy from various perspectives, highlighting what is happening and the opportunities ahead. We had the pleasure of visiting Green Yard Kleven and Kongsberg Maritime , where we gained valuable insights and experienced firsthand the impressive expertise and innovation these two cornerstone companies in our maritime cluster represent. A special thank you to Øyvind Gjerde Kamsvåg from ULSTEIN, who gave an engaging presentation on the history of the X-Bow and X-Stern, highlighting the holistic perspective that defines this groundbreaking ship design, at our Blue Maritime Hangout at Skaparhuset. Our EU Project, #EverLoNG, is nearing completion, with the main results to be presented in a webinar on March 13th. The EverLoNG project aims to encourage the uptake of Onboard Carbon Capture (OCC) by demonstrating its use on board LNG-fuelled ships and moving it closer to market readiness. The project, led by the Dutch research organization TNO, has included various activities, such as testing and validating new carbon-capturing technologies on Heerema’s Heavy Lift vessel, Sleipnir, and one of Total Energies’ LNG carriers.    The webinar will feature presentations from project partners discussing final project results and outcomes from the different work packages. Once again, the discussions highlighted the latest developments, challenges, and opportunities in this transformative field. Seminar highlights: 🔹 New developments: The NUPROSHIP Project, led by NTNU and Jan Emblemsvåg, has secured new funding to further explore commercialization. 🔹 Regulatory insights: DNV, NEMO, and Lloyd’s Register shared perspectives on what it will take to realize nuclear propulsion. 🔹 Technology in focus: Siemens Energy and Emerald Nuclear presented advancements supporting nuclear-powered shipping. When we first gathered in 2022, the list of challenges was long. As we move into 2025, those challenges remain—but now, we see more concrete actions and strategic initiatives addressing both technological and regulatory hurdles. While nuclear propulsion is still a long-term prospect for commercial shipping, staying ahead of these developments is essential.
