The Norwegian Solution - We offer one of the most cost effective, secure and green data centers in Europe.

Om oss

Our vision is to offer the most cost effective, secure, flexible and green data center solution in Europe. Several key differentiators build up our unique value proposition. Power – Renewable, stable and at low cost LMD is located near 350 MW renewable power production. The national grid is next to the facility with a capacity of 2 500 MW. Surplus power production in the region of 6.7 TWh. Long term power prices available at leading low cost. Effective cooling solution The LMD cooling solution will enable the facility to run with an industry leading PUE guaranteed between 1.08 and 1.15 depending on UPS configuration. Our water cooling enables 50 KW/rack. Leading green LMD is Europe’s greenest data center. In addition to running on renewable power and operating with low PUE, the CO2 emission is “0” and the footprint limited. The mine is already there and the material required to build out capacity is low. The main part of the facility is not visible to the surroundings. There is no need for evaporative systems for cooling and the WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) is “0”. Flexibility – Growth, density and product solutions The flexibility is unique, with a “pay as you go” capacity. The size of the facility - 120.000 m2 whitespace - and the logistics allows different product solutions in a cost effective way. We can facilitate all known concepts for white space solutions and the facility structure enables a streamlined solution for containers in different shapes and sizes. LMD can customize power density, temperature, humidity, operational equipment, tier level and all related services. Time to market is 8 weeks for large scale capacity. Services up to IaaS are offered on pure lease models. High Security LMD is a Tier 3 data center service inside several secure mountain halls. The data is EMP protected. The facility has access from two single points of entry. This offers a high level of natural security and access control.

  • NEW OFFICE BUILDING Lefdal Mine Data Centers can look back on a year with solid growth in terms of turnover and in number of employees. Next year we will have around 50 employees. During periods of high construction and deployment activity, between 60-80 people are present at the site every day. The need for new offices in Lefdal is therefore great, and during the spring the construction of a modern and efficient office building will start. The new office building will ensure good working conditions for our employees, and also safeguard strict security requirements both internally and from our customers. "Our goal is to deliver a building that combines functionality, durability and quality – a building that meets today's needs and future requirements. We are proud to launch this project at the start of the new year says Rune Sætren, CEO of UNU.” "Our focus for this project has been to create an office building that is both functional and inspiring. The design has been developed with a balance between esthetics, user experience and context. The building's shape, footprint and facade reflect and support the surroundings and existing control rooms. Today's situation creates a unique, modern, but timeless architecture, says Vicente Ferrando, CEO NTC Arkitekter.” The new office building will further lift Lefdal Mine Data Centers, provide positive ripple effects in terms of increased activity for local subcontractors and strengthen its position as an attractive and innovative workplace.

  • Great to have you all up here and looking forward to hosting Olivia!

How do you prepare for the arrival of Norway’s most powerful supercomputer? You inspect every millimetre of her future home!👀 Is it really that important to inspect the data hall before a new supercomputer arrives? Absolutely! Olivia, Norway’s next-generation supercomputer, will soon call Lefdal Mine Data Centers (LMD) its home. This state-of-the-art facility isn’t just ready for Olivia—it’s designed to host several generations of supercomputers in the years to come. This week, a dedicated team from Sigma2, HPE, and LMD meticulously reviewed every detail: ✅ Transport routes, door dimensions, and flooring for 4-ton racks ✅ Pipe and electrical connections for 95% liquid cooling ✅ Power cables robust enough for heavy computational loads Almost everything passed inspection, except one final question: Can the largest forklift handle Olivia’s 4-ton racks? We’ll confirm soon—because perfection is key when delivering a machine of this magnitude.👌 👉 Swipe through the carousel to explore the inspection highlights and learn more about preparing for Olivia's arrival.

I'm excited to attend SC24 in Atlanta from the 17th to the 21st of November along with my CCO Mats Andersson. At Lefdal Mine Data Centers we specialise in large HPC and AI/ML deployments, and are currently building customer environments to support densities of up to 300kW/rack. With an additional 50 MW coming to market, we provide competitive low power prices (€0.06/kwh, including cooling), bespoke tailormade infrastructure, and a skilled design and operations team in a highly secure facility. Connect with Mats Andersson or me to schedule a meeting in Atlanta or a call/video discussion. #LefdalMineDatacenter #SC24 #DataCenter #HPC #NVIDIA

Olivia is going to be one demanding lady! When supercomputer #Olivia is installed around Easter next year, she will only perform at full potential with a top-quality data network connecting her to the #NIRD storage and our researchers across Norway.   In building the network for our services at Lefdal Mine Datacenter, we're fortunate to collaborate closely with Sikt – Kunnskapssektorens tjenesteleverandør. This partnership provides us access to the research network and further connectivity to the world via NORDUnet and GÉANT.   Currently, we have multiple redundant 100G links from the research network into Lefdal Mine Datacenter. In 2025, Sikt will offer several 400G links into the data centre. Their highly skilled technicians assist us in advanced network configurations, and we're fortunate to have access to such expertise. The configuration is underway locally, led by experts Helge Stranden (Sigma2) and Einar Lillebrygfjeld (Sikt).   We've invested in two Juniper QFX5130-32CD switches, each with 32 x 400G ports. These switches are future-proof and can be configured as either 400G or 100G ports. If we split all 400G ports into 100G, these two switches will have 256 100G ports.   These switches combine extremely high performance with flexibility and advanced functionality. They are well-suited for demanding network environments, such as #HPC and high-performance data storage environments and even Artificial Intelligence (#AI). As we gear up for her arrival, it's those with the highest demands who often inspire us to raise the bar. 💪

And the "baby's" name is ... Meet Olivia! 💚 We are thrilled to announce that Norway's next supercomputer now has its official name: Olivia!   Olivia is set to play a key role in advancing artificial intelligence (#AI), particularly in developing and enhancing Norwegian language models. With 304 of the most advanced #GPUs on the market, Olivia will offer a computational capacity 17 times greater than currently available nationally. 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪   Expected to arrive in the spring of 2025, Olivia will be installed in Sigma2's data hall at Lefdal Mine Datacenter. The name Olivia is a nod to the mineral olivine, previously extracted from the mine now transformed into a cutting-edge data centre. This symbolises the transition from traditional industry to advanced technology. 🌍🚀   - With Olivia, we are providing researchers in Norway with a technological powerhouse that will accelerate the development of AI and machine learning. Additionally, Olivia will open the door to scientific breakthroughs in other fields, such as health, marine, and climate research," says Jenny Amundsen Ask, our Product Manager for the national #HPC services.   Supercomputers are becoming smaller, more powerful, and faster. This is thanks to advancements in microprocessor and chip technology, more efficient cooling systems, and optimised architecture. Olivia will be significantly smaller than Betzy, Norway's most powerful machine to date, yet three times more powerful and 30% more energy-efficient. 💪💪💪🔋 🌱   Hewlett Packard Enterprise Norway won the contract in May this year, valued at 225 million NOK.   Read the full press release 👉 https://lnkd.in/dfrne7Ku, and stay tuned for more updates as we move closer to Olivia's arrival! 💡🙌
