Sea-Prime has officially set sail! Last week, the project consortium partners — Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Miros - Real-time Ocean Insights, UECC, and DNV — met at the DNV headquarters to kick off Sea-Prime (Ship Efficiency Assessment through Performance in Realistic Marine Environments). With great weather and an even better atmosphere, we had productive discussions that set the foundation for an impactful collaboration. The project focuses on advancing the Vessel Technical Index (#VTI) into a transparent, versatile, and reliable metric for measuring, quantifying and verifying ship #performance in real-world conditions. By accounting for operational and environmental factors like waves, wind, currents, and fouling, VTI will offer a more #accurate measure of vessel #efficiency — helping the maritime industry applying right and timely measures to reduce energy consumption and #GHG emissions. By bringing together world-leading expertise from academia, technology providers, and ship operators, we’re ensuring that Sea-Prime delivers practical, real-world impact on the following use cases: ✅ Evaluating the effect of Energy Efficiency Technology in realistic environments and varying operational conditions. 👉 Creating trust in the business case for EET's ✅ Evaluating hull and propeller performance - separately 👉 Providing operational support on when to do hull/propeller cleaning ✅ Using accurate performance evaluations in chartering contracts. 👉 Creating transparency, tackling split incentives and fostering increased efficiency through commercial contracts.
