  • As we welcome 2025, we’re taking a moment to reflect on our highlights from 2024. From exciting projects and strengthened partnerships to the milestones that pushed us further. None of this would have been possible without our dedicated team and trusted partners. Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to a bright and successful 2025 – full of fresh opportunities and continued collaboration. Wishing you all a Happy New Year! 🥂

  • Production line two at Herøya 👊 We’ve shared this before, but some milestones deserve a second spotlight. The second production line at our Herøya factory adds an impressive 500 MW annual capacity, bringing the total to 1 GW in Norway. This makes Herøya one of the largest automated electrolyser manufacturing facilities in the world 🌏

  • Nel receives a new purchase order from Samsung C&T   Nel has signed a new contract with Samsung C&T Corporation Engineering & Construction Group for 10 MW of alkaline electrolyser equipment valued at approximately EUR 5 million. Earlier this year, Samsung C&T selected Nel for a solar-powered off-grid hydrogen production project, and this new contract will support their first pilot for nuclear-connected (pink) hydrogen production.   Samsung C&T is establishing Korea’s first hydrogen production plant powered by nuclear energy, using excess nuclear power to produce hydrogen. The demonstration plant aims to validate a commercial model that improves energy efficiency by utilizing surplus energy. Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/dZNKxnDs #pressrelease

  • What a week it’s been at the European Hydrogen Week 👏 We’ve had insightful conversations and enjoyed meeting so many of you throughout the event.   A special thanks to everyone who joined our panel debate at our booth, "A New Chapter for Hydrogen and the EU-Norway Green Alliance": Dr. Sopna Sury, Chief Operating Officer for Hydrogen at RWE Paal Frisvold from Norwegian Greens Lukas Wernert, Hydrogen Team Leader at DG Energy, European Commission and our own CEO and President in Nel, Håkon Volldal Your insights made the discussion both engaging and inspiring.   Looking forward to continuing the conversation! 🙌

  • Exciting discussions at European Hydrogen Week! Today, our CEO, Håkon Volldal, participated in a panel debate titled "The Hydrogen Bank: Reflecting European Market Needs", alongside industry leaders like Daniel Mes (European Commission), Damien Eyriès, Dr. Sopna Sury (Hydrogen Europe), and Nils Aldag (Sunfire). Håkon highlighted the importance of: ▪ Focus on incentivising demand and creating lead markets for renewable hydrogen e.g., green fertiliser and green steel in cars ▪ Strengthening European resilience in electrolyser manufacturing to safeguard against supply chain dependencies. ▪ Ensuring a level playing field and that EU taxpayers money supports European jobs and builds a robust renewable hydrogen value chain. He also pointed out that recent auction changes-such as stricter completion bonds and timeline requirements-are key to distinguishing mature projects from those still in development. It’s clear that building a European hydrogen value chain isn’t just about cost-it’s about upholding principles like responsible business conduct and long-term energy security👏 #EUH2Week2024

Behind the scenes of our new automated PEM production facilities 👏 Kathy Ayers, VP of Research and Development at Nel, takes you on an exclusive tour of our expanded facilities in Wallingford, Connecticut. The opening marks a major upgrade with a new 500 MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) production line- an increase from the previous 50 MW capacity.   The factory’s automation significantly reduces total production costs. With this new line, Nel is positioned to support large-scale projects both locally and globally as demand for hydrogen grows.

Together with Ørsted our Co-Chairmanship of the Renewable Hydrogen Coalition is coming to an end this year. Our CEO Håkon Volldal reflected on the achievements of the Coalition over the past years and looked ahead to upcoming challenges at the at #RHS2024:   “Renewable hydrogen has gained unprecedented momentum and support, both by the private sector as well as by policy makers, realizing its potential to transform hard-to-abate sectors including in industry and transport and play a role in balancing the future energy system in the long-term.   EU laws mandating renewable hydrogen targets for industry and transport by 2030 are a gamechanger for unlocking demand for our sector and the Commission needs to ensure their implementation. The funding landscape in Europe also got further shaped with the European Hydrogen Bank auctions aimed at supporting European based production of renewable hydrogen and bridging the cost gap between fossil based and non-fossil based hydrogen. Furthermore, support from the EU Innovation Fund large scale call from 2023 is set to generate 9.3GW of electrolyser capacity.    We also congratulate the Commission for including important resilience criteria in the 2nd round of the European Hydrogen Bank auction that help level the playing field with global competitors. We expect this approach to set the tone for future initiatives.    For the upcoming EU mandate and over the next 5 years, we need to ensure that EU decarbonisation and industrial policies go hand in hand, in order to kick start the renewable hydrogen economy, promote jobs in Europe and boost EU clean tech manufacturing.”   Learn more about our EU policy positions here: https://lnkd.in/djyhaXgt
