Thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday for NorNAB - Norwegian National Advisory Board for Impact Investing’s event: State of Impact Investing 2024: Global & Nordic Outlook! 🌱 Jan Erik Saugestad, CEO of Storebrand Asset Management and Chair of NorNAB, opened the event, setting the stage for an inspiring session. Christian Rosenholm shared key findings from The Global Impact Investing Network’s State of the Market 2024 report, followed by insightful perspectives from Maria de Perlinghi (Norselab) and Sigrid Wilter Slørstad (Grieg Investor). Highlights from The GIIN's latest research: 🌎 Impact investing assets continue to grow steadily, with a 14% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past five years. 📈 Large and small investors are leveraging their unique strengths, signaling a maturing market for impact investing. 💡 Our key takeaway? Impact investing isn’t a distinct asset class, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. Context is everything. Stop waiting for the “perfect” framework — embrace the complexity, and take action now. Christian Rosenholm shared a powerful reminder of the importance of mobilizing more capital to impact investing with a quote from Martin Luther King Jr.: “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl. But whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” Learn more in The Global Impact Investing Network's latest market intelligence report: https://lnkd.in/gs3tVjmJ Karl Olav Grønlund Sørensen - Jan Erik Saugestad - Maria de Perlinghi - Sigrid Wilter Slørstad - Christian Rosenholm - NorNAB - Norwegian National Advisory Board for Impact Investing - The Global Impact Investing Network - Norselab #ImpactInvesting #Meaningfulness #MeaningfulInvesting

Are you ready for the latest news in impact investing and sustainability? Let's get you updated on the essential developments in the industry, curated by Norselab’s Impact Analyst, Oda Standal. 🌱 🌱 The Global Impact Investing Network has just published its annual landmark research, revealing that the global impact investing market has experienced a 21% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over the past five years, now totaling $1.57 trillion in assets under management (AUM). ⬆️ After a slowdown in 2023, a recent New Private Markets report shows that impact investing in private markets is bouncing back in 2024. While the capital raised for impact investing at the end of Q3 in 2023 was $12.4 billion, it has nearly doubled in 2024, now reaching $21.6 billion. ☀️ On October 1st, the UK closed its last coal-fired power plant, a year ahead of schedule. The phase-out has kept a high pace, aligned with the goal of limiting global warming to below 1.5 degrees as per the Paris Agreement. The Global Director, Energy, of World Resources Institute stated that «The UK spearheaded the coal-powered industrial revolution over 250 years ago and is now demonstrating the viability of a 21st-century clean power transformation.» 🌾 The Svalbard Global Seed Vault has received 30,000 new seed samples from 23 gene banks to protect crop diversity. This addition is part of growing efforts to mitigate climate disaster risks as preparations for the climate crisis become essential. 🌳 At last month's UN Biodiversity Conference in Colombia (#COP16Columbia), delegates made progress on a global fund to ensure fair sharing of benefits from genetic resources. The fund suggests that companies in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and animal and plant breeding contribute 1% of profits or 0.1% of revenues, although participation is voluntary and requires national enforcement. In September, Norselab Impact Day gathered investors, founders, and industry bodies around the central theme «Pioneering Meaningful Investing». Co-hosted by Investinor and Capricorn Investment Group, the event featured forward-thinking discussions on what can be achieved through impact investing as well as showcases from meaningful companies on the tangible impact they create in the real world. 🌱 Highlights include: 🌱 Impact investing can be both profitable and a driver for positive change, with several examples from panelists illustrating how meaningful impact aligns with market-rate returns. 📏 Standardized metrics often miss key impacts of investments. We need a holistic approach to identify opportunities and measure progress while meeting the aggregation needs of institutional investors. 🌍 A highly anticipated panel of the day addressed the question: Can impact investing make a difference in public markets? The panelists shared various examples of impact opportunities, ranging from solution strategies to resource efficiency strategies. Engagement was brought up as a crucial approach to ensuring investor contribution through public market impact strategies. 🔥 The event ended with an engaging fireside chat with Christian Rosenholm, who exposed the success story of impact investing, which has attracted more than a trillion US dollars in only 17 years. 👉 Explore all the event highlights here: https://lnkd.in/dB6Z__UW 👉 Don't miss out on next year’s Impact Day! It’s time for our monthly update on the latest news in impact investing and sustainability, aimed at keeping you up-to-date on the industry’s essential developments. The 20th edition is curated by Norselab's Impact Analyst Inès van Tol. 🌱 ✍️ World leaders sign a Pact for the Future, symbolizing a renewed commitment to global cooperation and 56 actions to turbocharge the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). 📊 Measuring and reporting requirements set by investors can make life harder for businesses in emerging markets and slow down impact efforts in these regions, a recent University of Oxford report indicates. 🗞️ A study from Robeco and the University of Zurich confirms that aligning with the SDGs reduces the risk of companies’ involvement in severe scandals related to issues such as corruption, fraud, or environmental pollution. 🌱 More investors, such as Alcentra, believe direct lending can achieve impact results. A recent whitepaper from the credit manager indicates that direct lenders are well-positioned to make an impact in both developed and developing markets. 🔍 Finnish data provider The Upright Project has added 35,000 funds to the first-ever open-access database for investors to scientifically assess funds’ net impact.
