✨ We're Making an Impact This Holiday Season ✨🎄 This holiday season, our community has been leading with purpose and compassion. In keeping with tradition, our Secondary student councils organised a food drive to support Fattighuset, a local organisation helping those in need. Thanks to the generosity of our families and staff, we collected several bins of non-perishable food items, which were delivered to Fattighuset’s headquarters in Oslo this morning. Last week, our Youth Amnesty club organised a call to action, where students and staff came together to sign over 600 petitions, advocating for justice and supporting human rights around the world. It’s also been a season of creative fundraising, with raffle sales for Christmas baskets (organised by our Parent Association), bake and candy cane sales all contributing to our community efforts. We’re incredibly proud of our students, families, and staff for their dedication to supporting others, both locally and globally. 🏆 COUNSELLOR OF THE YEAR! In mid-November, University Counsellor, Monchaya Jetabut, proudly represented our school at the 2024 CIS Global Forum on International Admission & Guidance, where over 800 professionals from schools and universities across the world connected and shared insights. Dr J (as she is affectionately known to students) delivered a compelling presentation about the importance of active listening in communication and building relationships. In addition, she was recognised as Counsellor of the Year by the European Universities Consortium! "The beauty of planning for one’s future is that the possibilities are endless. University research should be an exciting activity, not a stressful one," says Dr J. "We support our students to use the resources available to them, so that they can make the best-informed decisions for their futures." AMBASSADORS FOR EMPOWERMENT 🌟 Two of our Upper Secondary students recently had the honour of representing OIS at the OXLO Women’s Conference, an event that brings together organisations from local and national levels to champion diversity and support the integration of women in our communities. This year’s theme, “Participation in the Workforce is Beneficial for our Mental Health,” shone a light on the critical link between inclusion and mental well-being, reminding us of the transformative power of equity in the workplace. We are deeply grateful to Neneh Bojang, Founder and MD of the Inter-African Committee (IAC), a long-time friend of OIS and a dedicated mentor to our students. During an insightful four-day visit, our guests engaged with a diverse range of community members—staff, parents, and students alike—getting a true sense of what makes our school a vibrant and exceptional place for learning. The visit wasn't just about showcasing our strengths. It was also a chance for collaboration and reflection, culminating in a full-day workshop focusing on key areas that will help us continue to grow. 🌍 Representing IB schools across Norway, our Head of School, Thale Herbertson (along with Head of Education at Abelia, the Norwegian Trade & Employers' Association), met last week with the Norwegian State Secretary to the Minister of Research & Higher Education. They presented a comprehensive account detailing why the proposed new grade conversion table falls short of reflecting the achievements of IBDP students. “This meeting was an important opportunity to advocate for a fair conversion of the IB Diploma in Norway, and we’re hopeful that it will lead to a positive outcome,” says Thale. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is one of the most academically rigorous curriculums in the world, and is a globally recognised educational pathway, designed to develop critical thinkers and culturally aware citizens. “We’re dedicated to ensuring that our IB students receive the recognition they deserve for their hard work and commitment here in Norway, just as they do abroad,” concludes Thale. #IBSchools #EducationAdvocacy #StudentRecognition #GlobalOpportunities

🌟 Yesterday, we welcomed families into school to celebrate our students' achievements in what is known as the Core of the IB Programme. 🎓 The Core includes three transformative elements that truly shape our students’ growth. The Extended Essay (EE) challenges students to dive deep into independent research, crafting a 4,000-word essay on a topic of their choice. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) pushes students to show initiative, collaborate, and give back, with inspiring projects like podcasts, fundraising, and even yearbook creation. And Theory of Knowledge (TOK) invites them to question the world around them, and develop critical thinking by confronting our biases and assumptions about the world. All of this is what sets the IB Programme apart from other high school curriculums. 🌍 Last Friday, our Year 5 students collaborated with two of our IB2 students for a successful clean-up operation at Huk Beach in Bygdøy. 🌊 Demonstrating both enthusiasm and commitment, our younger students worked alongside their older peers, who stepped into leadership roles with ease. This initiative highlights not only our school’s dedication to environmental sustainability, but also the strength of teamwork and mentorship within our community.
