✨ We're Making an Impact This Holiday Season ✨🎄 This holiday season, our community has been leading with purpose and compassion. In keeping with tradition, our Secondary student councils organised a food drive to support Fattighuset, a local organisation helping those in need. Thanks to the generosity of our families and staff, we collected several bins of non-perishable food items, which were delivered to Fattighuset’s headquarters in Oslo this morning. Last week, our Youth Amnesty club organised a call to action, where students and staff came together to sign over 600 petitions, advocating for justice and supporting human rights around the world. It’s also been a season of creative fundraising, with raffle sales for Christmas baskets (organised by our Parent Association), bake and candy cane sales all contributing to our community efforts. We’re incredibly proud of our students, families, and staff for their dedication to supporting others, both locally and globally. Together, we’re showing the power of a community that really cares. #CommunitySupport #HolidayGiving #StudentLeadership #HumanRights #MakingADifference

Since 2004… We Cambridgeshire Community Foundation have awarded over £32 million through 10,000+ grants. We have supported thousands of organisations, including charities, community groups, schools and sports clubs. They have made a positive difference to hundreds of thousands of people. We have funded projects in every ward in Cambridgeshire. You can learn more about our impact in a new 20-year impact report and most importantly see some of the work of the incredible charities and community groups that make all the difference, especially for those facing the biggest challenges and disadvantage. Whilst I am proud to reflect on what has been achieved, our new Vital Signs report shows that there is still much, very much more to be done. For a brilliantly successful County like Cambridgeshire we can see that the gap between the wealthier and the more deprived districts has widened in the last decade. In our cities, there are stark inequalities relating to income, education, and health between the most and least deprived wards. In Cambridge, there is a 12 year difference in life expectancy between the most and least deprived people! In a County, world-renowned for education, we are below the national average in indicators of early years development and school engagement. Poor outcomes for children eligible for free school meals reflect the impact of deprivation on education and sadly, later life prospects. If you or your business is interested to help people in your community through philanthropy and placed-based grant-making - please do get in touch. https://lnkd.in/dqipYz45

A new report from the All Party Parliamentary Group on a Fit and Healthy Childhood, which our charity contributed to, has set out what needs to change to make sport somewhere that girls feel like they belong. You can read it here: https://ow.ly/6qJ750R7tIM The report's recommendations for government include: ✅ Action on misogyny in sport and in society, including anti-misogyny policies and training. 📺 More coverage of women's sport and a move to 50% coverage of women’s sport on public service broadcasters. 👩⚕️ More recognition of the role sport could play and the benefits it could bring in women's health strategies. 🏫 Improvements to school sport to make it better for girls, including more support for teachers. We support these recommendations and were thrilled to be asked to contribute our thoughts to the chapter on what more government could do. You can find out more about our priorities for government on our website: https://ow.ly/HnC250R7tIL

Juneteenth: How We Can Educate and Celebrate Today As we honor this significant day in history, it's important to both educate ourselves about its origins and actively celebrate the progress we've made. Here are some meaningful ways to engage with Juneteenth: Learn the History: Listen, learn, and be involved. Visit local museums like the African American History Museum in Washington D.C., or go to your local library and look for African American Literature, History books, and films. Titles like "The Warmth of Other Suns" by Isabel Wilkerson and films like "13th" by Ava DuVernay offer deep insights. Support Black-Owned Businesses: It's important to contribute to economic empowerment by supporting Black-owned businesses. This can be a powerful way to celebrate and uplift the community, and finding them is only a Google search away. Volunteer or Donate: Support organizations dedicated to social justice and equality. Volunteering your time or donating to causes that uplift marginalized communities can make a tangible impact. Happy Juneteenth! www.korecc.com/blogs #Juneteenth #Educate #Celebrate

An interesting study recently published by the University of Maryland School of Public Policy found a strong relationship between volunteerism, giving, and other civic participation such as voting. Specifically, people that volunteered in the prior year were 14.5% more likely to give in the current year. Volunteering and giving increased the likelihood to vote by 12% and 10% respectively. And civic engagement leads to increases in both volunteering and giving (see table). Helping people take smaller steps appears to lead to bigger ones in the future for NPOs.
